Hot Lunch

We are having some difficulties with students adding their names to our hot lunch order on a last minute basis. In order for us to run a cost efficient program (please remember that our lunches cost only $2.25 and $2.75 for a large) we must know in advance if you are having hot lunch for the day. We realize that occasionally lunches are forgotten and if that happens then please come to the office in the morning and ask to be added to the hot lunch program before the meal preparation has been done. If you are added to the lunch at the last minute we will have to charge an additional $1.00 surcharge to the meal. Thank you for your understanding.

Classroom News

Kindergarten
Ms. Blankenship

Thank you for bringing your children to the Chapel Haven Church last Sabbath.  They did a great job!

Today we are at the Anderson Farms Pumpkin Patch. We are sure this will be a wonderful experience for them.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

We’re back to the farm today! It looks like a beautiful day for visiting the pumpkin field. If there’s mud  I’m sure we’ll find it.

Farm and Desert reports are due by next Wednesday. These are to be a written report with a visual aid and to be given orally.

A very large frog we named Delilah, was found on the soccer field yesterday. We scooped her up and found a safe hideaway for her near the golf course pond.

We had such a great turnout for choir at Chapel Haven. Thanks parents and kids.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

There are still appointments available for parent teacher conferences tomorrow. If you would like to speak with me please call the office to schedule a time.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

Parent/Teacher Conferences are tomorrow!  Students are welcome and encouraged to attend the conference if a parent’s work schedule allows.

During the day on Wednesday students should find time to study for Thursday’s Science test.  They could also practice their spelling words and the memory verse for this week (Acts 4:12).

Students are also encouraged to find time to read their Bibles at home.  Pathfinders could use this time for reading the verses outlined in the Companion requirements.

Finally, if any parents are available to help with Apple Day, please let me know.  I am looking at either November 1 (Thursday) or November 2 (Friday).

Grades 7-12

Mr. Wuerfel

7/8 English/Reading
Student’s rough draft of their short stories are due next Tuesday. These stories are really coming along. Some are making use of great description while others have some excellent plots and themes.

9/10 English/Bible
Short stories are also due on Tuesday. The Bible class has been giving some wonderful presentations this week over their exegesis projects. These students are nothing less than scholars. Some of their Biblical Exegesis would make seminary students stand in awe!

Drama: Oh the drama!
We’re almost all set for our week of prayer and getting more excited by the day! We’ve just been given permission to put on two church services and partake in some awesome outreach activities for the Seattle area.

Mr. Howard

Soccer:
There is no game this week.  We will be practicing on Tuesday and Thursday as normal this week.  Next week will be the same with no practice on Monday and practice on Tuesday and Thursday.

7 – 12
If you need to check on your child’s assignments remember my Web site is:

Mr. Force

7/8
Next week is our special reward day for cooperation. We will be going on a field trip on Mon. or Wed. We hope the weather man can predict the best day. We are hoping for sunshine! Each student will need warm clothes, hiking shoes and a lunch. We will be leaving at 8:30 and returning to the school by 3:15.

9/10
We get to give our reports today. Geography covers so much information about so many places.

11/12
We just finished our finals and took a standardized test in government. It seemed really long – too many pages but it was actually only 57 questions and pretty easy.

We are going to be trying to discover the balance in government – how to establish a democracy without letting it get out of control into a mobocracy!

Gymnastics
Thanks to everyone who helped us go to Union College. We had a great time. The clinic was awesome, the clinicians were tremendous and the program was amazing! Look forward to and mark your calendars for Dec. 5th. We will show you some of what we learned during this after school program.

We’re Bragging

We have a new addition to our academy music program that we are very excited about!  Last Sunday, as the Gymnastics team was making their way back from Union, they were able to stop off at Platte Valley Academy.  While there, Mrs. Force and her crew loaded up a 5-octave set of handbells. Our chimes were either needing repair or replacement and the opportunity came for us to rent this set of handbells. It is a welcome addition to our music program.

March Break in San Francisco

Information is being sent home today regarding our school trip this March Break to San Francisco. If you went with us on our trip to Europe last year you’ll know that our school trips are not only educational but an incredible amount of fun!

PSAT

Tomorrow our grade 10 and 11 students will be going to Mile High Academy to take the PSAT. They will be leaving promptly at 7:55 a.m. to avoid rush hour traffic. More info is being sent home today.

Fall Festival

November 3rd we are having our Fall Festival at the school. Please mark your calendar and watch for more information.

Student Association Events

Movie Night
Have you heard of Movies in the Park?? This Saturday night, from 6:30-11:00 p.m., the S.A. is having a movie night for the grade 7-12 students here at Vista Ridge. We will be selecting 2 movies (rated family or PG) and be watching these movies outside! Please dress warmly and bring blankets or sleeping bags because unless it is raining or snowing (we’ll move to the gym) we will be sitting in the great outdoors! Food and drinks will be provided.

Dress Up Day

We are having our second dress up day on Wed. Oct. 31st. This time our theme is boxes. You can wear anything made out of a box – paint them, design them and use your imagination. You must wear school dress code clothing underneath your boxes.

First Snowfall Contest

We are having a contest to see who can predict our first Colorado snowfall. Prizes will be awarded to those that guess the day. Please see Eric Chamberlain to cast your votes.

Parent Teacher Conferences

It’s almost time for Parent-Teacher Conferences again!  For grades K-6, we will be doing it the same way as last year.  Please come into the office to sign up for an appointment.  Appointments begin at 12 noon and run through 7:45 p.m. to try and accommodate everyone.  You will be given 15 minutes for an appointment.

For grades 7-12 we will have a different format.  It would make a very long day if each student was given a 15 minute appointment with each teacher now that we have 40 students in grades 7-12.  This year the format will be as follows:  all the upper grade teachers will be in the gymnasium.  You will sign up for an hour slot. There will be 5 families signed up in each hour. You will then be able to speak at 10 minute increments to as many teachers (there are 5) that you want to. You can move from table to table as there is an opening. Please respect the 10 minute limit. The tables will be placed at a proper distance to maintain confidentiality.  If you need a longer time, please make an appointment with the teacher on another day.

Community Partners Program

We are sending home Albertson's Community Partner Program cards. These convenient cards can be attached to your key chain and scanned each time you shop at Albertsons. The school receives 1% of the first $50,000 in sales/quarter and 5% for amounts over $50,000 in sales.

Fall Week of Prayer

Suess, Scripture ‘n U
Week of Prayer will begin the week of October 22nd. Our guest speaker will be Clint Helbley, Summer Camp Director at Glacier View Ranch. Using themes presented in stories written by Dr. Suess, we will be studying how they relate to the Christian Life. Please don’t forget to bring your Bible.

Homework Load

Does your student have enough homework?  Too much?  When planning for a grade level, your student should be doing an average of 10 min. times their grade in homework each evening.  For example, a first grade student should have 10 minutes of homework each evening.  A fifth grade student should have an average of 50 minutes of homework each evening.  An 11th grade student should have 110 minutes of homework each evening.  When teachers plan homework, they look at the class as a whole and plan for that average.  However, should your student not use their time wisely in class, they may have more homework than the teacher intended.

Cognitive/Genesis Survey

If you still want to turn in your parent’s survey, you still have time to turn it into the office on Parent/Teacher Conference Day.  That will be the last day you can turn them in.  If your child is in grades 3-9 & 11, they have recently taken COGAT testing along with their ITBS testing.  In addition to the testing, each student has also done a survey.  Likewise, each family involved should receive a parent survey today.  The Seventh-day Adventist Church is conducting a 3-year study on education.  For your child to be included in the study, the parent survey must be filled out, sealed and returned to the office by October 16

School Family Directory

We are almost ready to print our school family directory.  If you have a change of address and/or phone since registration and have not given the updated information to the office, please do so as soon as possible.  We have a few families that prefer their home phone number not be given out.  If you fall into this category, please make sure the office knows this information, also.

Fully Equipped

On November 1-3, the Frontline Youth Initiative will hold their meetings at Campion Academy.  Our youth are encouraged to attend.  The format is very similar to a Youth Rally.  To register, see a complete schedule of events, and/or make reservations for meals visit www.FrontlineYouthInitiative.org or call (970) 667-7403.  Some of the speakers include Dan Serns from NPUC, Cheri Peters from True Step Ministries, Pastor Peter Casillas and Jarod Thomas from DayStar Academy.

Planned Absence Requests

So many of you are doing a great job of turning in planned absence requests when your student needs to miss some school.

Just one reminder – just because you filled out a request, this does not mean that your student’s absence is automatically excused.  It is excused only if the reason for the absence falls into the categories listed in the school academic bulletin.  If you have any questions regarding this procedure, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Pathfinders & Adventurers

No Pathfinders and Adventurers on Oct. 17th due Parent Teacher Conferences.

The Adventist youth organizations will be hosting the Sabbath services at the following locations:

Oct. 20th:    Boulder SDA Church

We will be performing skits and presenting music.  Please ask your Pathfinder or Adventurer if they have a part in the skits and help them to memorize their parts.  Also:  Please have Pathfinder/Adventurers bring their Class A Uniform. We need to see if all participants have complete uniforms.  Remember black sock and shoes.

Home and School

Cookie Dough Delivery – The cookie dough will arrive on Wednesday, November 7th.  This is a frozen product, so please plan to pick up all of your cookie dough at the end of the school day.  There will be no storage available for items not picked up. There will be a limited number of extra tubs of cookie dough available for purchase.  It will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Ride to Lunch in a Limousine – On Wednesday, October 24th, all 12 students who qualified for this prize will be picked up at 11:30 a.m. by a 14-passenger Excursion stretch limo!  We will go to lunch and return to the school by 1:30 p.m.

Ice Cream Party – The 3rd/4th grade classroom had the highest sales and the highest average sales for the Cookie Dough Fundraiser!  Congratulations!!!   However, the Kindergarten and 5th/6th grade classrooms were so close that we decided to give all 3 classrooms the ice cream party.  This will happen very soon!
