Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken
This week we are learning all about bees. The students are buzzing with many new bee facts!
We continue our countdown this week with name day, outrageous outfit day, pajama day, and quick day.
Here is the news on our last field trip of the school year. On Tuesday, May 22, our class will be going to the Broomfield Rec Center. We will enjoy some water fun and then we will walk to a nearby park and eat lunch. I am asking for parent volunteers that would like to come along for the day and jump in the water with the students. If you would be willing . . . please let me know soon. Thank you.
Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines
Our field trip is on Tuesday, May 22 to the Broomfield Rec Center for swimming and a picnic. We’ll be gone for the day. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. We need four adults in the water. The cost per student is $3.60.
Little Red Riding Hood will be performed on Wednesday the 23rd at 2:30 p.m. Check with your student about their costumes.
Grades 3-4

One last Country report. It is just a fill in the blanks report. Due May 17. Swimming at Lafayette Rec. Center tomorrow. Due to a recent accident, I do not have a van.
All overdue work is due by May 16. Come the last week of school with a towel, and an extra change of clothes, every single day, “cause ya never know what might happen!”
So far over $400 for Africa!
Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson
Our class ran a combined total of 383 laps at the jog-a-thon last Friday. Tyler Lee ran the most laps in our room. Please encourage your child to collect their pledges and turn them in as soon as possible.
We are collecting school supplies to send to a school on the island of Tonga. Appropriate school supplies include pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, colored pencils, note pads, glue sticks, and stickers. Please try to have supplies in by May 21.

Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls
Ms. Schneider
Today all the students in Life Skills Class became parents! Each student “couple” received a stuffed baby to be responsible for during the next week. This includes getting up in the middle of the night to feed the baby! One couple has twins and another has triplets! Seek out a 9th – 11th grader and see what they have to say about parenthood.
The Life Skills Class will be catering the Volunteer Reception on May 10. The students need to stay after school to prepare the food. Miss Schneider will be supervising them. They should be picked up at 6:15 p.m.
Mr. Wuerfel
Seventh and Eighth Grade:
Ever wonder where the word critical came from? Ever wonder why we call a person who is obsessed with him/herself a narcissist? Our students do! We are also going over tree diagramming and trying our best to understand the age old question of whom or who?
Reading:
Our students are still working diligently at their stories and they are turning out well!
Bible 9/10:
Our last chapter revolved around the concept of guidance. How does a group decide on a controversial issue and come out with complete agreeance? We are looking at the first century church on how they were truly led by the spirit.
English 9/10:
We’re almost done with Much Ado About Nothing and will begin working on post unit projects. This unit has been a hoot and has been fun to watch as students learn how to read Shakespeare.
English 11:
Thursday’s the big day for our 11th graders. They are excited and nervous all at the same time. These students will be the first of many years to orally present research findings to a large panel of individuals.
Drama:
Our short films are looking great! Some of our students have really put a lot into these. Also, if you were at Boulder, you’d have seen our drama team do an amazing job with the church service! Great job, drama team!!!

Next Year!
As we are looking to next year for planning and preparation, if you have questions, comments or suggestions, the Principal will be in the office on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00. If this is not convenient, please contact her to schedule a time.
Awards Chapel
This Friday, May 11, will be our Awards Chapel. In an effort to make shorten the Picnic and Pops Program, we are moving some of the awards to a chapel time. Parents are welcome to attend. It will be in the library at 8:15 a.m.
Jog - A – Thon Report
On Friday, May 4, the students participated in a jog-a-thon to raise money for worthy students. Many parents came to help and watch their student run laps around our field. A big thank you to all the parents and their support. Students ran their hearts out! The students are now responsible to collect all their pledges. Please have all your sponsorship monies turned in as soon as possible!
Special Schedule for Practices –
Please note these schedule changes to accommodate the teacher’s efforts to have great year-end programs:
Gymnastics:
No 3rd – 4th grade gymnastics on Monday, May 14. There will be a practice for them on May 21-22. Final program for this age group will be Monday, May 22 at 4:30 pm., which is their regular pick-up time.
No practice for the regular gymnastics team on Monday, May 14 and Tuesday, May 15. Mr. Force will be out of town.
Please Note!
Schedule change Gymnastics practice will be until 5:00 p.m. Mon-Thurs. until May 19th (except for the 14th and 15th).
Re-Enrollment Applications The classrooms are filling! Please return your forms to assure a place for next year!
Video footage Needed now of school events throughout the year for the year-end video. Please put your tapes in a ziplock bag with your name on them and the bag. Place a note inside the bag that tells us what is on the tape. Leave it at the office and we will return it to you. We also need to borrow a couple of video cameras to help through the production process. Thank you. Kirk King
Please! School closes Monday through Thursday at 3:30 p.m. – please pick your child up NO LATER than 3:45 p.m. On Fridays, school closes at 12:15 p.m. Please pick them up no later than 12:30 p.m. Thanks.
Gymnastics students need to be picked up promptly, also. Thank you.
Dress Code Reminder: As spring looms nearer (we hope), students will want to wear shorts more often. Please review the guidelines in your handbook with your student. Specifically, plaid pants/shorts are not to be worn and pants/shorts should not have decals or embellishments. Please note the proper length as taken from the handbook → (When worn at the waist shorts are no shorter than 3 inches above the floor when kneeling). Thank you.

We are looking forward to a wonderful Picnic and Pops Concert on May 16. The theme this year is songs from the classic musicals. The students are working very hard to provide you with a fantastic evening of entertainment. The festivities begin at 5:30 pm with the picnic and the music at 7:00 pm.
For those of you who have never attended this program, if you come for the “picnic” portion, you bring everything you need for your family’s picnic supper. Home and School provides dessert and drink. This is not a potluck.

Box Tops for Education & Campbell's Labels |
 |
Save every Box Top for Education and Campbell's Label for our school! The Campbell's "Labels for Education" program is similar -- save the UPC codes of most products (not the front labels as in the past). On most Campbell's products, a tiny inscription beside the "Labels for Education" logo will describe what to save. Vista Ridge Academy benefits from every "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Labels for Education" turned in. Don't throw away these treasures! Our school has received a free huge play parachute from redeeming the Campbell's labels, and we have received over $500 cash from redeeming the Box Tops for Education.
