Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken

Our last day of school countdown continues this week with ice-cream day, joke day, kiss day (chocolate kisses), and lovely day.

Since there is NO hot lunch tomorrow,  Ms. Gaines and I have decided to walk our classes to the nearby park for lunch and play time! Please pack your child a disposable lunch and it might also be a good idea to apply sunscreen to your child that morning.

There are plans in the making for a field trip the last week of May. Here’s a hint: you will be all wet! More details to come!

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

Summer vacation is on the horizon. We have so much to accomplish! Help us stay focused for a few more days.
We celebrate summer birthdays this month. Students may bring treats for the class if they wish.  Odali- May 7th; Baylor- May 22nd; Sofie- May 23rd.

Little red Riding Hood is progressing. It is our hope to perform it the last week of school.

No hot lunch tomorrow so bring a sack lunch and we will go to the park with the Kindergarten class.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

Field Trip: May 9, Wednesday Swim party at the Lafayette Recreation center from12:30-3:00.  The cost is $2.40. Please bring a sack lunch, we will eat outside, TBA. Any parents willing to help transport would be appreciated. Any parents are welcome to come and stay for the whole time if they like! There are plenty of Lifeguards during the swim time, so my need is more in transporting the children just up the street!

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

How embarrassing!  All of our beginner band members forgot their instruments yesterday.  With Picnic n’ Pops coming up, it is very important that students have their instruments for each class period.  Please remember to bring them tomorrow.

We have finished our poetry unit and will be reading biographies about famous individuals.  We are also writing autobiographies for English.

Our annual Jog-a-thon is this Friday.  Students should wear comfortable running/walking clothes and shoes.  It is also good to bring a change of clothes in the event the weather is hot.  Remember the classroom prizes:  1) the student who runs the most laps; 2) the student who gets the most sponsors; and 3) the student with the most funds raised.  Happy running!

Grades 7-11
Mr. Wuerfel,  Ms. Schneider,
Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

Mr. Pauls

Parents, please check Edline for missing math assignments. There are a lot of zeros and these can be turned in for credit!

Mr. Wuerfel

Seventh and Eighth Grade:
These students are moving past my expectations as usual. Their graphic novels over one of the Odyssey Tales were nothing short of amazing! These students are working hard and I see positive results.

Reading:
Students are reading Robert Cormier novels and are learning to look for censorship themes throughout the stories. They are also writing online short stories. These stories are interesting to read and a lot of fun to respond to via their comment page. If you’d like to read some of their stories visit our class Web site and see what various future writers are creating at the preteen age.

Bible 9/10:
The Bible class just finished working on their ideal worship service and will be seeing it to fruition this Sabbath at Boulder SDA Church. Their concepts of worship were changed somewhat as the class read what Foster had to say about why we worship and how we should or shouldn’t worship.

English 9/10:
Much Ado About Nothing has been a riot to teach to these students. They have grasped very mature concepts and have caught onto Shakespeare’s language. The Monday study group has been meeting and we’ve seen some great results from it!

English 11:
If our Eleventh graders look nervous or flustered it’s because they have only one week before they present their oral research projects. If you’re interested in coming to see/hear these scholars discuss their literary findings please come out to our presentation on the 10th of May at 6:30 p.m. in the library.

Drama:
The drama team will be doing one of their originals at Boulder SDA Church this weekend. This play is done to music and will move you emotionally. “Come to the cross and be healed.”

Next Year!

As we are looking to next year for planning and preparation, if you have questions, comments or suggestions, the Principal will be in the office on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00.  If this is not convenient, please contact her to schedule a time.

JOG - A - THON

The Fourth Annual Jog-a-thon will be held on Friday, May 4 after worship.  Money raised during this event goes to the VRA sponsorship program.  Students are encouraged to get sponsors per lap or flat fee before the event.  Forms for signing up sponsors are being sent home today with the newsletter.  Additional ones may be picked up in the office.  They will have an hour in which to run as many laps as possible.  As before, we need parents to help with this event.  Please call the office or come in to sign up.  Thank you for your help and support!

SA Banquet
Grades 7 -11

We will be leaving the school @ 4:30 p.m. for dinner at The Olive Garden. Please plan to arrive @4:15 p.m.

Vista Ridge students planning on bringing a guest to the banquet on Sunday, May 6th, must complete a form and submit it to the principal. Guests must be approved in advance. Also it is very important that all guests wear banquet attire that follows the Vista Ridge handbook standards!!

Please Note!

Schedule change Gymnastics practice will be until 5:00 Mon-Thurs. until May 19th.

Free Turtle Our classroom pet is looking for a new home.   He is a red-eared slider aquarium turtle.  Turtle and home are free.  If you are interested please contact Sandy Hodgson.

Re-Enrollment Applications  The classrooms are filling!  Please return your forms to assure a place for next year!

Video footage Needed now of school events throughout the year for the year-end video.  Please put your tapes in a ziplock bag with your name on them and the bag.  Place a note inside the bag that tells us what is on the tape.  Leave it at the office and we will return it to you.  We also need to borrow a couple of video cameras to help through the production process.  Thank you.  --Kirk King

Please!  School closes Monday through Thursday at 3:30 p.m. – please pick your child up NO LATER than 3:45 p.m.  On Fridays, school closes at 12:15 p.m.  Please pick them up no later than 12:30 p.m. Thanks.
Gymnastics students need to be picked up promptly, also.  Thank you.

Parents:  Please do not park in the fire or bus lane!  Please keep this lane open!

Caution:  Heavy equipment and large trucks are now present on Ridge View Drive as they break ground next door for the medical professional building and the new pre-school.  Use caution as you are coming and going.

Dress Code Reminder:  As spring looms nearer (we hope), students will want to wear shorts more often.  Please review the guidelines in your handbook with your student.  Specifically, plaid pants/shorts are not to be worn and pants/shorts should not have decals or embellishments.  Please note the proper length as taken from the handbook  → (When worn at the waist shorts are no shorter than 3 inches above the floor when kneeling). Thank you.

Box Tops for Education & Campbell's Labels

Save every Box Top for Education and Campbell's Label for our school! The Campbell's "Labels for Education" program is similar -- save the UPC codes of most products (not the front labels as in the past). On  most Campbell's products, a tiny inscription beside the "Labels for Education" logo will describe what to save. Vista Ridge Academy benefits from every "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Labels for Education" turned in. Don't throw away these treasures! Our school has received  a free huge play parachute from redeeming the Campbell's labels, and  we have received over $500 cash from redeeming the Box Tops for  Education.
