Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken

This week our theme is different than what I originally planned on the curriculum calendar. I decided to talk about frogs and toads and the differences between them.

We have finally reached the last letter of the alphabet for our letter of the week … Zz. Our word family for this week is –ake.

On Thursday April 19, we will start counting down the last 26 days of school. We will use the 26 letters of the alphabet to help make each day special and unique. On Monday, I will send home a letter explaining the special activity for each day.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

Thanks for bringing dogs, cats, hamsters, and fish for Pet Week!  They were wonderful additions to our classroom.  We anticipate a few more visitations this week.

Math homework is on its way home many nights.  Check with your child to ensure that it is done and will be returned to school.  It should be their responsibility to take care of it.  You may help them when they have questions.

We have been reviewing continents and oceans.  There will be a test on Thursday.  Students must be able to identify the continents and oceans and place them on a map. They will not be graded on spelling, but capitalization and proper placement. Words will be provided for them to label the maps. 2nd grade are expected to transfer words to the map with correct spelling. Neat map work is essential!

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

The Spelling Bee at Mile High Academy is this coming Monday, April 16. We need to know by Thursday Morning if your child will want Pizza. There will be cheese and black olive for $1.50 and drinks for $.50 each. I will be placing the order for Pizza Thursday at the end of school. Please send the money in also. Those who don’t order must bring a lunch.  The bus will be taking the children to Mile High. Any parent wanting to come is welcome, but must let me know.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

A current grade report is included in today’s Tuesday folder.  These grades are also posted to Edline.

We have started a Physical Fitness Program and students are keeping a log of their physical activity.  Any physical activity that takes place at home can be logged in their booklets and initialed by a parent.

Students are writing creative poetry as well as working on Tall Tales.

Life Skills
Announcing the mock-wedding of Miss Kayla Foley to Mr. Alexander Jewett.  They will be not-forever not-really joined in wedded bliss on April 19, 2007 in the chapel of Vista Ridge Academy.  We are planning this mock wedding for the Life Skills class.  The students will be learning about the meaning of the symbols in the wedding and planning, preparation and financial obligations of a wedding.

Mr. Wuerfel

Hello all!! Life is good and getting better as Summer Break approaches.

The Seventh and Eighth grades are working hard on The Odyssey and will begin work on their graphic novels.

The ninth and tenth graders are working diligently on Much Ado About Nothing. Because Shakespeare’s works can be problematic for students we will have a study group meeting immediately after school every Monday. Parents and students alike are all invited.

The eleventh graders are working hard on their research presentations that will be on the 10th of May at 6:30 p.m. Parents are asked to come support their students as they present their year long research on chosen British Lit authors and the time period their works were written. This is a big deal. We are inviting CU professors, English teachers around the area, and local literature enthusiasts. Please come out and watch these wonderful oral presentations.

*With regret, Dinner Theater for this year has been cancelled.

Box Tops for Education & Campbell's Labels

Save every Box Top for Education and Campbell's Label for our school! The Campbell's "Labels for Education" program is similar -- save the UPC codes of most products (not the front labels as in the past). On  most Campbell's products, a tiny inscription beside the "Labels for Education" logo will describe what to save. Vista Ridge Academy benefits from every "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Labels for Education" turned in. Don't throw away these treasures! Our school has received  a free huge play parachute from redeeming the Campbell's labels, and  we have received over $500 cash from redeeming the Box Tops for  Education.
