Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken

This week our theme is plants. We are learning about the different parts of the plant as well as what every plant needs in order to grow. Each student will also get to experiment with plant growth by planting a pot of grass seed. The students can’t wait for their grass to grow so they can give it a haircut.

Our letter of the week is “Yy” and our word family is  -ell.

Ms. Gaines class has invited the school to participate in an Egg Drop this Friday. There are rules to follow as well as prizes for different categories. I have inserted all the information in your child’s B.E.A.R. binder.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

Pet Week is finally here! We’ve got many pictures of your family pets, but want more. Make an appointment for visiting the class. Forest Burke will be at school on Friday to bark, “Hello”.

Egg Drop is Friday so get your ideas together now. Mr. Smith will drop our containers from the school roof, onto the blacktop. Check out the enclosed flyer for rules and regulations.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

Our class is welcome to join the egg drop with Mrs. Gaines class, if they choose. They must follow the rules for the drop. Our class is still hoping to pull a Read-A-Thon together to benefit the Malaria Foundation in Africa. We hope to pull this off before the end of the school year!

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

A current grade report for Math, English, and Reading is included in today’s Tuesday folder.  These grades are also posted to Edline.

We are currently studying poetry in Reading and in English we are putting our grammar lessons from the past three quarters to good use with writing.

Our students have been invited to participate in the Egg Drop contest sponsored by the 1st and 2nd grade classroom.  Ask your student for details.

Grades 7-11
Mr. Wuerfel,  Ms. Schneider,
Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

Ms. Schneider

Life Skills

We will be doing marriage and family issues this quarter.  We will be starting with dating, courtship, engagement, marriage, children and beyond; through life’s issues.

Mr. Wuerfel

Classes are going well and spring is in the air! The seventh graders are working hard on the Odyssey and watching one of my favorite movies O Brother Where Art Thou. They have found the artful similes between the two and are doing some amazing analysis.

The ninth and tenth graders have begun work on Much Ado about Nothing. This is my favorite of Shakespearean Plays that toys with the English language in humorous and ironic ways.

The drama team is working hard on their short films which will be included in our small film festival this May.

*With regret, Dinner Theater for this year has been cancelled.

Mr. Force

Box Tops for Education & Campbell's Labels

Save every Box Top for Education and Campbell's Label for our school! The Campbell's "Labels for Education" program is similar -- save the UPC codes of most products (not the front labels as in the past). On  most Campbell's products, a tiny inscription beside the "Labels for Education" logo will describe what to save. Vista Ridge Academy benefits from every "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Labels for Education" turned in. Don't throw away these treasures! Our school has received  a free huge play parachute from redeeming the Campbell's labels, and  we have received over $500 cash from redeeming the Box Tops for  Education.
