Classroom News
Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken
This week we are learning all about spring. We will talk about the changes that take place in the weather and in nature.
Our letter of the week is “Ww” and our word family is “en”.
Just a little reminder that Monday is our library day and many of the Kindergartners are forgetting to bring back their books. Please take some time to look around your home for missing books, they’re getting home sick! Thanks.
Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines
We welcome spring and warm weather. Please remember – No open toed shoes. They are a hazard on the playground.
Do you have an air corn popper we could use for our science fair project? If so, let us know right away so we can get popping.
We’re getting prepared for Pet Week – April 2nd through April 13th. If a pet is visiting school you’ll need to make an appointment and an adult must accompany each four legged friend. A picture or story about a pet will be great for those who have no pet at home. All students should be prepared to tell some unique qualities about their pets. Those who can perform tricks are a real plus!
Bring your pet pictures for the bulletin board NOW so they can be displayed with Moses, Murphy and Alley.
The Egg Drop will be April 6th. Details will follow next week.
Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen
We are working on Science Fair projects in class. Check folders for MORE details. A lot of art, and other work is coming home today. PLEASE check backpacks.
Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson
Welcome back! We are in our last week of Third Quarter. All work needs to be turned in no later than Friday. There will be an English and Science test on Thursday and a Math Test on Monday.
We will be concentrating this week on Music Festival and Science Fair. Students should plan to have their science materials at school each day in order to utilize time in class to finalize their projects.
Grades 7-11
Mr. Wuerfel, Ms. Schneider,
Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls
Mr. Wuerfel
Hello all! Spring break is over and the two and a half month countdown for summer break has begun.
The seventh and eighth graders are finished with their poetry unit and will have their poetry test on Monday of next week. They are beginning the Odyssey written by Homer. This is an epic/narrative poem written in 800 B.C. This literature can sometimes be problematic for some students because of the archaic language used. This will most definitely prepare students for Shakespeare and other Elizabethan pieces we will view together in the upper grades.
The ninth and tenth graders are almost finished with their poetry unit and will next begin reading Much Ado About Nothing, my favorite Shakespeare play.
The eleventh graders are finished with Macbeth and will be taking their test next week Tuesday. They should have purchased the novel Emma by Jane Austen. We will be discussing Victorian Literature and its importance to its age and ages to come.
The drama team will be preparing for their first mini film festival. This is going to be a great experience for them and should be a lot of fun!
Mr. Force
Mar.23 game with Brighton is cancelled.

Grade 3&4 Tumblers meet from 3:30-4:30 on Monday only. Please note the pick up time is at 4:30 not 5:00.
Social Studies
7th and 8th grade Social Studies project due date is April 6th which includes a final presentation. We will also be finishing this project with a special lunch where we would like each student to prepare a food that originates from the country they’ve researched, to share with the class.

Parents: Please do not park in the fire or bus lane! In order to keep traffic flowing and the bus on schedule, we need to allow room.
Caution: Heavy equipment and large trucks are now present on Ridge View Drive as they break ground next door for the medical professional building. Use caution as you are coming and going.
Wheelies: Please do not send your child to school with the tennis shoes that have the roller wheels in them. Either take the roller part out or have them wear other shoes. Thank you.
Electronics: We are having an outbreak of Tamagatchi toys in the classroom. Please have your student keep these at home as they are a disruption to the classroom. Please also remind your students that cell phones are to be kept in their lockers. Thanks.
Remember! Hoodies are not a part of the VRA dress code! We have been somewhat lenient but it is time to tighten up on this!

Sun. March 25th, at 6:00 p.m. there is an ice cream social for grades 7 – 11 at Erin and Carrie Johnson’s.
Address: 13865 Linden Ct., Thornton.

Aspen Leaf
Have you signed up yet to receive the Aspen Leaf by email? This is a great way to help us reduce our costs! You may also read it on our Web site: www.vistaridgeacademy.org.
We are reducing the number of copies of the Aspen Leaf being distributed. If you are not receiving the Aspen Leaf by e-mail we will be sending home one copy per family and will be sending this with the youngest student in each family. Please call the office if this doesn’t work for you. There may be e-mail and family duplication for the next couple of weeks until we get this organized. Thank you for your help in our conservation efforts.
Attendance/Sick List
Since the cold and flu season is upon us, please note this reminder: Please call the school office to advise us if your student is sick by 8:30 am. All the teachers are required to put their attendance reports on the computer by that time. If you haven’t called and let us know that Susie or Johnnie is sick, then the teacher has to go back in and change the attendance report. Your calling by 8:30 am helps us be more accurate and efficient. We appreciate your help on this matter. Note: If your student has the sniffles, cough, sneezing, fever, etc., please DO NOT send him/her to school. If medication is needed for fever or other contagious symptoms this is a good indicator your child should stay home.

Box Tops for Education & Campbell's Labels |
 |
Save every Box Top for Education and Campbell's Label for our school! The Campbell's "Labels for Education" program is similar -- save the UPC codes of most products (not the front labels as in the past). On most Campbell's products, a tiny inscription beside the "Labels for Education" logo will describe what to save. Vista Ridge Academy benefits from every "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Labels for Education" turned in. Don't throw away these treasures! Our school has received a free huge play parachute from redeeming the Campbell's labels, and we have received over $500 cash from redeeming the Box Tops for Education.
