Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken

This week we are studying dinosaurs. Our letter of the week is “Vv”.

Next week is spring break, so I hope everyone has a very safe and enjoyable vacation.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

We are enjoying spring weather this week. On Thursday, weather permitting we will have our campfire west of the school. We’ll need a sack lunch with no micro-wave items. Our s’mores will be made at that time. This was planned for the end of October and we’ve been waiting for a warm, dry and wind-free day. Small pieces of kindling wood are needed.

Just a reminder:  No open toed shoes for school.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

No school work coming home until after spring break; we’re behind on computer entering.

Keep working on science projects. I will be taking account of those after the break.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

There are only two weeks left until the end of third quarter!  Students need to work hard this week, have time off for Spring Break, and then study to get all their work and tests in by the 23rd! A current grade report is enclosed as well as posted to edline.

Don’t forget Music Festival at Campion Academy in Loveland is the weekend after Spring Break.  Students in 5 & 6 will be participating in band, strings, or choir.  Please review the additional information in the newsletter and permission slip regarding Music Festival.  Please contact Becky Carlisle, Marirose Force, or me if you have any questions regarding the festival.  If your child needs help with transportation on Saturday to the festival, please contact me.

I will be leaving with the school group going to Italy tomorrow.  Thank you, Mrs. Lujan, for covering in the classroom while I am gone.  Enjoy your Spring Break!

Grades 7-11
Mr. Wuerfel,  Ms. Schneider,
Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

Mr. Wuerfel

Great job basketball teams!!! You’ve done well this season and I’m excited to see how each student progresses in ability levels.

7/8 English and Reading
Students are finishing up their week long unit on Robert Frost, one of my favorite American poets, and are beginning to prepare for Shakespeare! They are also finishing up their Adventure novels.

9/10 English
These students have mastered the art of Haiku and are now moving toward Keats and Poe! What could be more enjoyable than spending time with two individuals who couldn’t be more different.!

Drama
These students are learning to edit videos and create short films that are done well enough to be features on YouTube!

Bible

Bible is still going well. We are now discussing the importance of simplicity. We are going to be making lists of what’s most important to us and where it ranks in God’s plan.

Mr. Force

Congratulations to our basketball teams! Both the girls' and boys' teams won 1st place at our 2007 Denver Metro Christian Athletic Association tournament.

Mar. 23 game with Brighton is cancelled. We will let you know when it has been re-scheduled.

Social Studies

7th and 8th grade Social Studies project due date is April 6th which includes a final presentation. We will also be finishing this project with a special lunch where we would like each student to prepare a food that originates from the country they’ve researched, to share with the class.

Fine Arts
Mrs. Carlisle & Mrs. Force

The time for the Rocky Mountain Conference Music Festival is quickly approaching!  It is scheduled for March 22 – 24.

A schedule and permission slip is included in your packet if you have a student in music.

OPEN HOUSE

The date for our school’s Open House for prospective students has been changed from Feb. 27th to Mar. 22nd. Tours of the building start at 6:30 p.m. and information meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Parents of students not going to Europe – Please note!

We hear rumors that our students who aren’t going to Europe think they don’t have to come to school on Thursday and Friday.  This is not true!  We have activities planned for the whole time.  If you are leaving early on a vacation, please notify the office by coming in and filling out a planned absence form.  Otherwise, we will expect your student at school.  A permission slip for one of the planned activities should be included in your Tuesday folder.  Please call the office if you have any questions.

There will be Spanish class tomorrow Mar. 7th.

Please Note!

Please  School closes Monday through Thursday at 3:30 pm – please pick your child up NO LATER than 3:45 pm.  On Fridays, school closes at 12:15 pm.  Please pick them up no later than 12:30 pm.  Thank you.

Parents:  Please do not park in the fire or bus lane!  In order to keep traffic flowing and the bus on schedule, we need to allow room.

Caution:  Heavy equipment and large trucks are now present on Ridge View Drive as they break ground next door for the medical professional building.  Use caution as your are coming and going.

Wheelies:  Please do not send your child to school with the tennis shoes that have the roller wheels in them.  Either take the roller part out or have them wear other shoes.  Thank you.

Electronics:  We are having an outbreak of Tamagatchi toys in the classroom.  Please have your student keep these at home as they are a disruption to the classroom.  Please also remind your students that cell phones are to be kept in their lockers.  Thanks.

Remember!  Hoodies  are not a part of the VRA dress code!  We have been somewhat lenient   but it is time to tighten up on this!

Aspen Leaf

Have you signed up yet to receive the Aspen Leaf by email?  This is a great way to help us reduce our costs!  You may also read it on our Web site:  www.vistaridgeacademy.org.

We are reducing the number of copies of the Aspen Leaf being distributed. If you are not receiving the Aspen Leaf by e-mail we will be sending home one copy per family and will be sending this with the youngest student in each family.  Please call the office if this doesn’t work for you.  There may be e-mail and family duplication for the next couple of weeks until we get this organized. Thank you for your help in our conservation efforts.

Attendance/Sick List

Since the cold and flu season is upon us, please note this reminder:  Please call the school office to advise us if your student is sick by 8:30 am.  All the teachers are required to put their attendance reports on the computer by that time.  If you haven’t called and let us know that Susie or Johnnie is sick, then the teacher has to go back in and change the attendance report.  Your calling by 8:30 am helps us be more accurate and efficient.  We appreciate your help on this matter.   Note:  If your student has the sniffles, cough, sneezing, fever, etc., please DO NOT send him/her to school. If medication is needed for fever or other contagious symptoms this is a good indicator your child should stay home.

Home and School
Scrip Program

We are in the process of adding new vendors to our Scrip program. Currently we still have the King Soopers gift cards. These cards are used just like cash and don’t cost any extra to buy but our school receives 5% of all sales back! To order these cards please contact Diana Manion at 303-926-1317 and she will deliver the cards to the school office.

School Store

 Mon. – Thurs. 9a.m. – 3p.m. & Fri. 9a.m. – noon

Case orders that were placed for the Feb. 20th delivery are now available for pick up.

We have vegetarian canned and frozen products, and seasonings from several companies.  Come browse and help our school. Buy by case or individually.

Box Tops for Education & Campbell's Labels

Save every Box Top for Education and Campbell's Label for our school! The Campbell's "Labels for Education" program is similar -- save the UPC codes of most products (not the front labels as in the past). On  most Campbell's products, a tiny inscription beside the "Labels for Education" logo will describe what to save. Vista Ridge Academy benefits from every "Box Tops for Education" and "Campbell's Labels for Education" turned in. Don't throw away these treasures! Our school has received  a free huge play parachute from redeeming the Campbell's labels, and  we have received over $500 cash from redeeming the Box Tops for  Education.
