Kindergarten

I enclosed a new snack calendar last week.  Please pick a week or weeks you would like to bring the snack.  I need this to be completed by the end of this week.  I will then place the new snack calendar in the BEAR binder under the tab "calendars."

I placed a Scholastic order form in the BEAR Binder last week:  Please return your book orders by January 22.  All checks need to be made payable to Laura Tusken.  Thanks!

From now until the end of the year I will be placing sentence practices in your child's BEAR Binder on a weekly basis.  You will find these under the tab "Word Lists."  Please read over these sentences with your child.  This activity helps your child to get more familiar with our weekly sight words as well as getting more confidence as they begin to start reading.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

Snow, snow, snow!  We've had too much but the students love playing outside!  All recesses will be on the playground so children need to come prepared.  We have an area for snowball throwing that is "out of school bounds," otherwise it is not allowed.

Thanks for contributions to ADRA for the goat and cow.  Money has been sent to purchase these items for a needy family.

Show and tell may be brought this week and next.  Students may bring a favorite toy.

We are emphasizing manners this month.  Be on the lookout at home for improvement along this line.  At the end of the month we will crown a King and Queen of manners.  We welcome your input.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

Mrs. Hansen is away today attending her grandmother's funeral.  Our sympathies are with her during this time.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

This is our final week of second quarter.  We will finish out the quarter with a Spelling Test on Friday.  Most all other testing took place before Christmas break.  Students will begin anew with 100% in all subjects on Tuesday, January 16.

Will there be a snow day again?  We hope not, but if you are in doubt, please check out 9News on the TV or the Web (9News.com) as well as radio station KOA (AM 850).  You are also welcome to call me at home (303-448-1875) or on my cell (303-819-4981).  If you prefer I call you if there is a closing, please let me know.  As always, parents must make the best decision regarding their child's safety and travel situation on whether or not to come to school on snowy days.

As this semester ends and a new one begins, students have the option to continue in band and recorders.  If a student does not plan to stay, a note needs to be turned in to Ms. Schneider by Wednesday, January 17.

A new book order form is available if students want to order something.  Orders should be turned in by Friday, January 12.

A Science Fair is scheduled after we return from Spring Break.  We will begin selecting and working on projects soon.

Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

Mr. Wuerfel

Classes are going well and the students are anxiously awaiting their exams =).  But in all seriousness, they are doing well and should be well prepared for exams.

The eleventh grade class is working on their Blackberry Tales.  This is a modern version of the Canterbury Tales that will actually be sold to the public (that would be you)!  We are also going to be sending the book out for publication!

Nine and ten are working on their essays while the seventh and eighth grades just finished theirs.

Mr. Force

January 22:  Campion vs. Mile High basketball game at the Pepsi Center.  1st game starts @ 1:00.

$10 Reward

The library is missing the letter “D” from its newest World Book Encyclopedia Set.  It has been missing since last year.  If you find it, please return it to Mrs. Hodgson to claim your reward!

Please Note

Parents:  Please do not park in the fire or bus lane!  In order to keep traffic flowing and the bus on schedule, we need to allow room.

Please check the monthly calendar online for any
changes. We are trying to conserve paper and printing.

Our school would love to have its own video camera! If you are updating your camera equipment this year and would like to donate your old equipment please remember our school!!

Thank-You  Thank-You

We are very grateful to Brad Barton and Randy Krehbiel for donating their time and keeping our driveway plowed during the snow storms!

Snow Days

Please check out 9News on the TV or the Web (9News.com) as well as radio station KOA for snow day announcements.  You are also welcome to call Ms. Schneider, cell # 573 289 1226, if needed.

Afternoon English Tea Party
February 8

"Ladies Afternoon Tea Party"
Ladies...set aside the afternoon of Thursday, February 8th, for a luxurious tea time in Boulder.  This will be a wonderful, "Get to know other school ladies, make new friends, and have a fabulous afternoon together" event that you won't want to miss. Please see the H&S Newsletter for more information.

Pepsi Center Day

Grade 7-11 students attending the Pepsi Center games will leave VRA @ 11:45 on Jan 22nd.  We will be taking the bus and plan to return to VRA around 10:30 p.m. after the Nuggets game. If there is a delay or overtime we will call parents when we leave the Pepsi Center.  Please make sure we have your home and cell phone numbers. Permission forms will be sent home this week.

We will need to buy supper so please make sure your child has at least $10.00 for this meal.

Bible Conference

Participants will leave VRA at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12 or as soon as the basketball game is finished.  Mr. Wuerfel is the boys' sponsor and Mrs. Yoshida is the girls' sponsor.  They will return to VRA at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 14.

We have more bad weather reports for the end of the week.  Our students' safety is our main priority and hopefully we don't have to cancel this program.  We will make a final decision by Thursday and notify those involved in the program.

Europe Trip

  • Please make sure you have paid the complete fee for the trip.
  • Please make sure that Miss Schneider has a copy of your passport.
  • If you have not received a copy of the itinerary and the travel tips, please contact the school office.

Upcoming Music Concerts:

As some of you probably noted, there were two Sabbath church music dates in January.  This has been changed.  There will be NO responsibilities on the Sabbath of January 13.  This is to allow families the opportunity to enjoy their holiday weekend without any extra school responsibilities.

Since grades 3-6 shared during December, we are changing the Jan. 20 date to have the K-2 choir sing at Chapel Haven.  There will be directions and times involved in next week's newsletter.

Music Outfits
Approximately 12 students still need to pay for their music outfits in Grades 7-11.  Please do so as soon as possible as the school has had to pay the bill to avoid interest charges and we would like to get that account settled.  The guy's outfits are $68 and the girl's outfits are $78.  Thank you.

School Store!
Hours:

Albertson’s & King Soopers

Shop at Albertson’s and raise money for our school!  If you have a Community Partners card, present it with your Preferred Shopper card at the checkout and they will scan both. After that, you will need only the Preferred Shopper card. If you do not have the Community Partners card, pick up the application in the school office or apply online at www.albertsons.com, click on the “In the Community” link to find the Community Partners logo link. The I.D. # for the school is: 4 90001 7741

Do you shop at King Soopers?  If so, you can support your school by purchasing King Soopers' gift cards directly from Vista Ridge Academy.  These are the actual gift cards just like you would purchase at the store, and work the same
as cash.  They also work great as gifts.  You pay the actual value of the gift card.  King Soopers donates 5% of these sales back to Vista Ridge.  Cards are for sale daily (this is known as the “Scrip” program).
