Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Ordelheide

This week we are focusing on the letter “K.” We are looking at words that begin with “sk” as well as words that end with “in.” Our sight words for the week are “me” and “is.” We are also talking about gingerbread men.

Please read in Mrs. Force’s section in this newsletter regarding Thursday night’s Christmas program.

Home & School is requesting that each family in our classroom bring 2 dozen cookies (or other light treat) to the Christmas program this Thursday evening.  The refreshments will be served after the program.  Please bring your contribution to the kitchen when you arrive.  Thank you!

Mrs. Gaines

What fun we’ve had playing in the snow! With the gym being set up for the Christmas programs, we will be outside for recess and P.E. this week and next.

Names were selected for the gift exchange to be held next Friday the 15th. Gifts can be brought to school anytime.

As a class we voted for each child to contribute $5.00 to purchase a doe goat for a family in Uzbekistan and a cow for a Vietnamese family. The $5.00 won’t cover the cost but the remainder will come from Snack Shack funds. I would like the children to bring their own money or earn it somehow. Please put it in an envelope and mark it – goat and cow.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

Our Christmas party will be Dec. 15th. Each child will need to bring a used toy wrapped up. We will be playing a game with these. The Thursday 7:00 p.m. Christmas program is required.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

Our class will be performing this Thursday evening, December 7 with the 3-6 choir, the recorder choir, and the band.  They’ve worked hard to present a great program!

Did your child tell you about their mummy?  We are enjoying the embalming process of Cornish hens during our unit study on Ancient Egypt.  You are welcome to stop by and see the mummies.

The Hatchet dioramas were very creative.  Students did a great job.  Our last project as we finish the book is a “book report”.  Students were given a list of unusual projects to pursue in lieu of the traditional report.  Ask them to share the list with you.  This project will be due on Thursday, December 14.

I am missing a book entitled The Funniest Excuse Book Ever.  It is overdue at the Boulder Public Library.  We have checked desks and lockers.  Could it be at your home or in your car?  Please return if found!

Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

January 12-14:  Youth Bible Conference for students in grades 9-11.  The early-bird cost is $40.  The event will be at Glacier View Ranch.  The featured speaker is Josue Feliciano from the Iowa Missouri Conference.  There will also be performances by TKO drama ministries and a concert by Antioch.  Please turn in your money to the office.

January 22:  Campion vs. Mile High basketball game at the Pepsi Center.  Start planning if you would like to attend.

Mr. Wuerful

This week the students of grades 7- 11 have learned the letter K, the color Blue, and the importance of sharing. (For some of you reading this,  know this is what we call satire and is a term that our 11th grade students have had to learn while reading The Canterbury Tales).

The Drama team is busy working on the Christmas play! The play is going to be a success due to the student’s willingness to learn their lines and parental involvement. (Thank you John J. ) We are asking that you please invite friends and neighbors to this play. The play has a specific message that can really reach people who we may not consider close. On the surface this play revolves around a broken relationship between a daughter and father, but beneath the surface where depth can be found, is the story of redemption. This is a play anyone would feel comfortable asking non-Christian and Christian friends alike to come to. So by all means, help us spread the word by spreading the word!

Mr. Force

Gymnastics

The Flying Eagles will be putting on their first exhibition! Come and see what your students have learned on Dec. 7th at the first Christmas program.

The poinsettias have arrived. If you ordered poinsettias from the school they are ready to be picked up. Please see Deanna Morgan, in grade 8, or go to the school office to have your name signed off our list when you pick them up.  Thank you for supporting this grade 8 class fund raiser.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found pile is growing by leaps and bounds!!!  All of the items will be in the “pit” on Thursday morning.  Please encourage your child to check or come on in and check for yourself!  There is a lot of stuff.  We will also have it on a table in the hall during the music program on Thursday evening.

$10 Reward

The library is missing the letter “D” from its newest World Book Encyclopedia Set.  It has been missing since last year.  If you find it, please return it to Mrs. Hodgson to claim your reward!

Please Note

Parents:  Please do not park in the fire or bus lane!  In order to keep traffic flowing and the bus on schedule, we need to allow room.

Please check the monthly calendar online for any changes. We are trying to conserve paper and printing costs. Thank you for your help.

Our school would love to have its own video camera! If you are updating your camera equipment this year and would like to donate your old equipment please remember our school!!

Clase de Español

Have you met Julia? Did you know that Carmen speaks pretty good Spanish? Has Marcos ever played música for you? Have you heard Elena and Isabel talking about Venezuela and España? If Mateo greeted you with “¡buenos dias!”  would you be surprised? The VRA clase de español is so cool!

If you want to join the Spanish class and their parents for an evening of fun learning about six Spanish-speaking countries, tasting what is eaten there, and swinging at a piñata, come to VRA December 14 from 6-8 p.m. But be sure to call Profesora Hayes at 303-443-0198 or tell one of the class members by Dec.1st if you want to come to our piñata party.

ITBS Testing

We have received the ITBS Testing scores.  Our students did a great job.  Each class scored a composite score at least 1 grade level above their current grade.  In some cases, they scored 3 or more levels above their current grade.  We are proud of our students and our teachers for doing so well.  Your child’s results will be sent home in the upcoming weeks.

Fine Arts
Mrs. Carlisle & Mrs. Force

Both strings groups will be practicing on Monday next week due to the extra drama/music practices going on later.  ALL strings students need to bring their instruments on Monday.

K-2 Christmas Songs:

We need each child to have some items to help with their Christmas songs.  Each K-2 student needs one small flashlight or a key ring light that will go on and off.  They also need a jingle bell to ring during their other song.  Just one is OK on a short string.

K-6 outfits for the Christmas concert:  Please dress your child in church dress with a holiday theme.  However, do not feel you have to go out and buy something just for the concert.

3-6 Choir will sing Sabbath, December 9 at Twin Peaks Church.  Directions to the church:  Go West on Highway 7 (Baseline Road) to 95th Street.  Turn South (left) on 95th.  Go approx. ½ mile to Paschal Drive.  Turn east (left).  Church is on the right.  Sabbath School starts at 9:30 am.  If you do not plan to attend Sabbath School, please have your child there no later than 10:30 am.  There will be potluck at the church.  Please remember that attendance at this program is part of their grade.  Thank you.

7-11 Choir/Band/Chimes:  Your student should be bringing home their outfit for the concert.  It should come with an instruction sheet about hemming skirt/pants.  We do have suggestions about who can help you if your talents do not lie in the sewing area.

Remember for those who haven’t paid the girls outfits are $78.00 and the boys $68.00

Wendy Martinez at Albas Alterations (615 S. Boulder Rd., Louisville) has offered her alteration services to our band and choir members who need their uniforms hemmed. Please call Wendy directly to arrange this.  H: 303 442 2832, cell 720 620 7441. Approx. cost for the skirt is $15.00 and the pants are $8.00. She needs about a week to complete the alteration.
