Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Ordelheide

This week we are focusing on the letter “J” both upper and lower case. We are also working on “st” our “blend for the week.” In addition, this week’s “word family” is “it” and we have added the sight words: like, we and did. We are talking this week about our senses.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

Spirits are high this week as we look forward to Christmas. How grateful we are for God’s gift to us, his son Jesus.

We welcome Marc to our second grade. It’s great to have another boy in the room.
Book orders sent home today must be returned by Friday. Make checks payable to Mrs. Gaines.

Our Christmas program is next Thursday night, the 7th. All of our classroom should be in attendance.

We’ll be talking about Christmas celebrations around the world. Reports for Dec. 4th-15th should be on a holiday tradition in another country.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

It appears we all stayed up later than usual during Thanksgiving Break.  We all had a hard time coming back to school yesterday (even the teacher!).  Christmas is just around the corner, though, and this is always an exciting time of year.

There are two upcoming performances that our students will be involved in – Thursday, December 7 will be a Christmas program.  Among the participants will be the 3-6 choir, the recorder choir, and the band.  The 3-6 choir will also be performing on Saturday, December 9 at the Twin Peaks Seventh-day Adventist Church.  Please check the music department section for additional information.

Students have a diorama due next Monday for Reading.  They were given a grading rubric yesterday.

All grades have been posted to Edline as of last night.  Finally, a copy of an article from the Boulder Daily Camera is in your folder.  It is an interesting article about parental and child development expert concern about how fast children are growing up.  I thought you would be interested in reading it.

Grades 7-10
Mr. Wuerfel,  Ms. Schneider,
Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

Thursday, November 30, is the deadline for ordering poinsettias.  Please support the Eighth grade class in this fundraiser!

Mr. Wuerful

The break was pleasant and much needed. Hopefully everyone got somewhat caught up on their sleep. School is back in session for the remainder of the semester and students are eagerly finishing their assignments and papers.

Ninth and Tenth Bible is working on their Jewish Sect presentations that are due Wednesday. They just finished reading the book of Matt hew and the book The Jesus I Never Knew.

English for the Ninth and Tenth is going well. They are ardently working on their mini research papers on their given thesis statements. These papers are being written in segments which will help the students learn the proper format and citation needed when writing scholarly material.

English for the Seventh and Eighth is going well. They are almost finished with their first response essays to the Animal Farm. They are doing exceptional for their grade level! They are thinking critically and responding to the given text with ease.

Eleventh Grade English is finishing up with the Canterbury Tales. We have enjoyed deep discussions on Medieval Literature and the customs and cultures intertwined in Chaucer’s well known work. They are also continually working on their research projects so their noses are pressed firmly to their classic British novels.

Drama is going well. We are working hard on preparing for the Christmas Play! Again, this is an original piece that centers on the story of redemption through a young teenage girl’s problematic life. This is an emotional play that will have you smiling, laughing, and crying. Please come out and support our students!

Gymnastics

The Flying Eagles will be putting on their first exhibition! Come and see what your students have learned on Dec. 7th at the first Christmas program.

Please Note

Parents:  Please do not park in the fire or bus lane!  In order to keep traffic flowing and the bus on schedule, we need to allow room.

Please check the monthly calendar online for any changes. We are trying to conserve paper and printing costs. Thank you for your help.

K-2 Christmas Songs:

We need each child to have some items to help with their Christmas songs.  Each K-2 student needs one small flashlight or a key ring light that will go on and off.  They also need a jingle bell to ring during their other song.  Just one is OK on a short string.  A small one.  We can’t have too much ringing drowning out their singing.  J  Please try to have them bring them to school by Thursday and give them to their teacher.  Label them so we know who they belong to.

K-6 outfits for the Christmas concert:  Please dress your child in church dress with a holiday theme.  However, do not feel you have to go out and buy something just for the concert.

3-6 Choir will sing Sabbath, December 9 at Twin Peaks Church.  Times and directions will be in next week’s newsletter.

7-11 Choir/Band/Chimes:  Your student should be bringing home their outfit for the concert.  It should come with an instruction sheet about hemming the skirt/pants.  We do have suggestions about who can help you if your talents do not lie in the sewing area.

Remember for those who haven’t paid the girls outfits are $78.00 and the boys $68.00.

Check next week’s newsletter for arrival times for the music concerts.

Concert time is 7:00 p.m.

Wendy Martinez at Arbas Alterations (615 S. Boulder Rd., Louisville) has offered her alteration services to our band and choir members who need their uniforms hemmed. Please call Wendy directly to arrange this.  H: 303 442 2832, cell 720 620 7441. Approx. cost for the skirt is $15.00 and the pants are $8.00. She needs a week to complete the alteration.
