Kindergarten
Mrs. Ordelheide

There are two new students in kindergarten. A warm welcome to David Clague and Orion Dege! This brings the kindergarten count to ten students. (Please keep this in mind when it is your student’s week to provide snacks for the class.)

This week we are focusing on the letter “I” both upper and lower case. We are also working on “sp” our “blend for the week.” In addition, this week’s “word family” is “ale.” Our topic for the week is Thanksgiving.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

We are thankful that Michelle and her family have been with us the past 3 months. We hope to keep in touch with her as she returns to Korea.

Our Thanksgiving skit and poems will be on Thursday afternoon at 3:00, in the chapel. We will also sing a special Thanksgiving song along with the kindergarten class.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

We welcome two new students to our class, Aaron Dege from North Carolina and James Clague from Longmont.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

Please see the information memo in today’s folder about Daniel and Katie’s return to Korea.  We will be celebrating with them this Friday.

We began a new unit, Ancient Egypt, in Social Studies today.  We are planning some exciting activities to go along with our unit.

There is a copy of your student’s grades in today’s folder.  All grades have also been posted to Edline.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and we will see everyone on November 27th.

Grades 7-10
Mr. Wuerfel,  Ms. Schneider,
Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

Christmas is only 42 days away. Plan ahead and order your poinsettia now!

Vista Ridge Academy is offering poinsettias to our school families once again.  The 8th grade is taking on the project as a fund raiser.  One of our students should be contacting you soon.  If not, please order directly from the school.  The cost is $10.00 per flower – order in any quantity.
15-19” Tall Gold Foil Wrap
15” Wide 5 Blossoms

History & Bible --- 7 - 11

We are discussing how God provided a place and prepared a people to establish a country based on Religious Freedom.
            The Place         → America
            The People       → Pilgrims

Ask them to share what they are learning.  Today, we watched a special program on our Religious Heritage.  “The Land of the Free Because of the Brave.”

Mr. Wuerful

Greetings! School is going as well as it can for a week before Thanksgiving Break. Most students have checked out and are already visualizing themselves eating that turkey covered with gravy with sides of honey glaze and buttery mashed potatoes, but I digress.

The Ninth and Tenth grades just finished their Great Expectations Test and will begin working on their research papers. Each student has chosen a thesis statement from the posted statements online. They are encouraged to go to their local libraries and read various scholarly journals and essays that are relevant to their topics.

The Seventh and Eighth grades are working on their first essay response papers to the Animal Farm. They will be asked to cite their sources and give proper analysis of the text.

The Eleventh Grade is working diligently on the Canterbury Tales.  So far they have enjoyed Geoffrey Monmouth’s Middle English style and humorous societal anecdotes.

The Drama Team is currently working on memorizing their lines for the Christmas Play. This is going to be a great play! Please save the date of December 13, a Wednesday, on your calendars. This is going to be a play you will not forget. Bring family and friends. Who could beat a night of free entertainment? Guys, here’s your chance. Take your special someone out for a play and maybe even some food. Just think of the jealous remarks that will be said of you around social circles by your loving other half. “George took me out last night to a play.” “Aaron is so romantic; he took me to a beautiful play last night along with a fancy restaurant.” Guys don’t blow it. Be the guy the rest of the wives will be jealous over. Raise the bar and make the rest of us men look bad. Be that guy.

Please Note

Parents:  Please do not park in the fire or bus lane!  In order to keep traffic flowing and the bus on schedule, we need to allow room.

Questions about Dinosaurs?

Too many Christians don’t know the truth about Dinosaurs.  Elaine Graham-Kennedy, Ph.D. is out to change that.  Dr. Kennedy is a Seventh-day Adventist scientist who believes in Creation and who has spent her life studying dinosaurs.  She will be at VRA on November 29th in the afternoon to share the information that she has learned.  If you would like to order one of her books, use the enclosed envelope to order a book for delivery at the school when Dr. Kennedy is here.  If you would like to preview the book, you may see a copy in the principal’s office.

Europe Trip

The plans are going well for our Europe trip.

We need to keep up-to-date with our payments. It is
$400 per person due on the 1st of each month, payable to VRA.

As soon as you have your passport, please bring it by the office.  We need a photocopy of your passport on file.

Tomorrow is the last day to get the group deal for trip insurance.  If you would like the trip insurance, please notify Miss Schneider.  We will have our travel agent get us signed up by Thanksgiving.
