Mrs. Ordelheide
A big “Thank You” to those who brought ice cream bars and were willing to help man the booth at the Fall Festival.
This week we are learning about Pilgrims and Thanksgiving. We are also learning about health.
In addition, we are focusing on the letter H. This week’s site words are do, am and big. Our “word family” is “ar” and our “blend family” is “gr”.
Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines
Thanks to all for helping at the Fall Festival. It was a lot of work, but the kids had fun.
Show and Tell is this week and next. Bring an item in a bag and a paper with 3 written clues. Bat reports were fabulous!
We are hoping to do a little Thanksgiving play for Friday, November 17th. We’ll let you know how it develops.
Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen
We have an extra insert this week for our class.
Parents: Please make sure you read the information on the insert, so you can stay up-to-date on our class activities.
Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson
We had a great time at the Fall Festival! Everyone was tired when they came to school this morning. We especially appreciated the help of Miguel’s mother at the food table and Brennan’s mother at the games table.
Book order forms were sent home yesterday. Please have orders in by Friday. Checks should be made payable to Sandy Hodgson.
Grades have not yet been updated to Edline. I apologize for the delay. It is my intent to have 2nd quarter grades up and running by the end of the week.
Upcoming tests: Wednesday – Science
Thursday – Social Studies

Life Skills Class: Students need to bring a needle, thread, several spare buttons, personal mending and several old clothing items to use for sewing examples. Each student must have a pair of scissors handy however; they do not have to be sewing scissors.
Mr. Wuerful
The week has gone well. The seventh and eighth grades are working diligently on their first scholarly research papers in response to the novel Animal Farm. They have more than risen to the occasion and are proving their potential daily. This is one talented class! Expect great things from these kids.
Speaking of expecting great things, the drama team has finished writing the Christmas play and will start casting on Wednesday thanks to help from John Dennis. He has decided to play a large role in the drama team this year as co-director. We want to thank him greatly for the time he has put into this! John, you’re the best!
The eleventh grade has started reading the first of the many tales from Canterbury. So far we are off to an awesome start.
Nine and ten finished reading Great Expectations and will take their first test on Wednesday.

Picture Retake Day Information
Friday, Nov. 10
Please note: this is the only day for pictures for those that missed the last time due to illness or absence. You must get your picture taken on this day to be in the yearbook.
If you got your picture taken at the first sitting and are not satisfied, please send the full portrait package back with your student on the 10th and have your student tell their teacher that they want retakes. If you have questions, please call the office.
Questions about Dinosaurs?
Too many Christians don’t know the truth about Dinosaurs. Elaine Graham-Kennedy, Ph.D. is out to change that. Dr. Kennedy is a Seventh-day Adventist scientist who believes in Creation and who has spent her life studying dinosaurs. She will be at VRA on November 29 in the afternoon to share the information that she has learned. If you would like to order one of her books, use the enclosed envelope to order a book for delivery at the school when Dr. Kennedy is here. If you would like to preview the book, you may see a copy in the principal’s office.
Europe Trip
It’s past that time again. Time for your next trip payment. Please turn in your next installment as soon as you can. Thanks.
If you haven’t received the CSA Travel Protection brochure and waiver, please see Miss Schneider to get a copy. Travel insurance is optional. If you choose not to purchase insurance, please sign the waiver form and return it to the principal. In order to get the group rate for insurance, we will need at least 10 participants. If you would like to purchase, please let the principal know to get a group quote from the travel agent. Checks will be made out to the travel agent.
As soon as you have your passport, please bring it by the office. We need a photocopy of your passport on file.
