Classroom News

Kindergarten

A great big thank you to Mrs. Patty Chamberlain for teaching the kindergarten students in-between Mrs. Tusken and Mrs. Ordelheide.  No news from the Tusken household as yet, but we hope to report a special arrival next week!

Tomorrow, Mrs. Ordelheide begins teaching.  We encourage you to stop by, welcome her and become better acquainted.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

Fall Festival is this Sunday afternoon at 4:30.  We need lots of help!  Our food booth will include corn dogs and caramel apples.  For fun, we’ll be bowling and fishing in the gym.  We need volunteers for setting up, preparing food and manning the booths.  Let us know what you can do.  We will also be makings calls for help.

We will be doing show and tell reports for the next two weeks.  Bring an item, not a toy, placed in a paper bag.   Write out 3 clues about the item, so the class can make guesses as to what it is.  This may be done any day the next couple of weeks.

Let’s finish up the Bat reports this week.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

PLEASE make sure your child has a COAT, and NORMAL SHOES, when it is SNOWING. We WILL go outside when it is COLD.

I  Need HELP with Sunday’s Harvest Fair.

Europe reports were incredible!
THANK YOU  KIDS and parents.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

We cooked Hot Lunch today.  The students do very well cooperating in preparation, serving, and clean-up.  A special thanks to Mrs. Manion for helping out!

Our Fall Week of Prayer was great.  Pastor King inspired us to use our individual talents to follow God.  The students in grades 5 & 6 helped Pastor King with skits throughout the week.

This Sunday is the Fall Festival.  Our class will have three activity booths in the gym.  For one of the booths we need about six 2-liter bottles of non-caffeinated pop.  Thank you if you are able to contribute!  We will also be selling home-made pizza.  We hope to see each of you at the Festival!

Dress Code Reminder:  Students should plan to wear clothing with hoods only when they are outside, not inside the classroom or building.

Is your child a trick or treater?  Please limit the amount of candy they consume!  Twenty kids on sugar overload can make teaching extremely difficult!!  Thank!

Grades 7-10

Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls

Christmas is only 54 days away. Plan ahead and order your poinsettia now!

Vista Ridge Academy is offering poinsettias to our school families once again.  The 8th grade is taking on the project as a fund raiser.  One of our students should be contacting you soon.  If not, please order directly from the school.  The cost is $10.00 per flower – order in any quantity.

15-19” Tall Gold Foil Wrap
15” Wide 5 Blossoms

Life Skills Class:  Students need to bring a needle, thread, several spare buttons, personal mending and several old clothing items to use for sewing examples.  Each student must have a pair of scissors handy however; they do not have to be sewing scissors.

Mr. Wuerful

The week has flown by and students are doing well! The Eleventh Graders have been reading some extremely challenging literature by none other than Geoffrey Monmouth. The Canterbury Tales Prologue has been tough yet fun! We will begin reading out first tale today. One reminder to parents: Your students are doing/ should be doing some difficult research. You should see them constantly reading this semester for their research project.

The Seventh and Eighth graders are working on their first essay over the novel Animal Farm. This will be a difficult challenge for many of them so help with proofreading and organization could greatly benefit your students.

The Ninth and Tenth graders are almost finished with Great Expectations and will soon be studying for their exam. They will also choose from the online list of essay topics.

The drama team finished their first Improv night and it was a blast! For their first time, they did extremely well! Next time, please bring your friends and family to this family friendly game night!

Questions about Dinosaurs?

Too many Christians don’t know the truth about

Dinosaurs.  Elaine Graham-Kennedy, Ph.D. is out to change that.  Dr. Kennedy is a Seventh-day Adventist scientist who believes in Creation and who has spent her life studying dinosaurs.  She will be at VRA on November 29 in the afternoon to share the information that she has learned.  If you would like to order one of her books, use the enclosed envelope to order a book for delivery at the school when Dr. Kennedy is here.  If you would like to preview the book, you may see a copy in the principal’s office.
