The Ninth and Tenth classes are working hard on Great Expectations and will soon be finishing up with The Jesus I Never Knew.

Drama: The Drama team is working exceptionally hard on improvisational skits for their first Improv night on the 28th, this coming Saturday night. Please come out and support them. Laughter is the best medicine so prepared to be in good health Saturday!

Dates to remember:

October 28- Improv night at Vista Ridge Academy @ 7:00 p.m.

This is a new event that the drama team will be participating in. Come out and support these students. They will be playing various improvisational games resembling the Drew Carey Show but appropriate for all ages. They will also make use of audience participation. There will be snacks sold as well as drinks. Please come on out. You will laugh until it hurts while our students are creatively playing their favorite improvisational games.

Miss Schneider

Miss Schneider has been away on Monday and Tuesday to be with her family during her father’s surgery.  We are happy to report that the surgery went really well and he is now recovering.  Miss Schneider is thankful for everyone’s prayers and concern.

Tuesday morning update on Elder Schneider:  As of 10:30 am Tuesday morning, Elder Schneider has been rescheduled for surgery late this afternoon.  There was a small complication from his surgery yesterday.  Miss Schneider will not be returning today and is canceling all her parent-teacher conferences for tomorrow.  She said to tell all the parents that she will be happy to schedule a conference with you when she returns.

School Directory

Our school directory is finished!  Special thanks to Ivy Lee and Lynda Kithil for putting this directory together for us.  If all went as planned, there should be a directory in your oldest child’s Tuesday folder. We have enough for one per family.  Please let us know if you did not receive one.

Europe Trip

This week we need a copy of your passport and we have an insurance paper for you to sign.  Please stop by the office when you come for parent-teacher conferences and Miss Schneider or Mrs. Force will help you with these items.  All minors must have their parent/guardian sign their insurance form.

Parent – Teacher Conferences

Our conferences are this week on Wednesday!  Please remember that there is no regular school that day.  The office will open at 11:00 am that morning, so if you forget your appointment time just give us a call.  Please be on time for your appointments.  If you are going to be late, please call the office and we can possibly reschedule.  We are asking that your student accompany you to the conference.  If you do not have an appointment yet, please call the office.

Tuesday morning update:  Due to Miss Schneider not returning today, we might not be able to have a full report card for you (see the report about her dad in the upper grade section).  We will be attempting to run them off this afternoon with her giving us instructions over the phone.  So, if the report card isn’t quite complete, we’re sure you will understand.

Computer Monitors

We still have free computer monitors available to good homes.  If you want to try one out, the computer lab will be open for you on parent-teacher conference day.

BUS

On Thursday of this week (October 26) the bus will NOT be available for service.  Mr. Britt will be taking the bus for a DOT check-up that day and the bus service will not be available for the morning or the afternoon run.  Thank you for your understanding.

Fax Line

Please check the phone number that you have for the school.  Some parents are calling in on the fax line which we don’t answer unless it is a roll-over call from the other two lines.  Don’t forget to check your cell phone, too.
            School number             303-828-4944
            Fax number                  303-828-1525

Sick List

Please call the school any time that your student is sick or is going to be late.  We are required to have accurate attendance records and if we can enter it correctly into the computer the first time, it saves us a lot of time.  The absence is considered unexcused until we hear from you.

Planned Absence Request

There have been some questions regarding our requirement for parents to submit a planned absence request for the school.  We thought it would be good to explain to everyone why we have this requirement.  There are several reasons that it is a good idea to communicate with the school in this way.

Teachers are flexible.  If you let the teacher know ahead of time that your student needs to be out for an appointment, they can plan around that time so that they don’t miss an important assignment, a test, a special presentation/field trip or even a birthday party.
Teachers need time to prepare assignments for when your student is going to miss class, so it is helpful to have as much notice as possible.
According to the Mid-America Union Conference Education Code, reasons for excused absences include attendance at a funeral, doctor appointments, and unique family situations for which prior arrangements are made.  Sickness, of course, would also be an excused absence but doesn’t usually fall under a “planned” absence.

Thank you for helping us with these situations.

Library Volunteer Needed

A volunteer is needed in the library to help replace book cards and put books back on shelves.  One to two hours per week, flexible time.  Please contact the school office if you are interested.

Lost & Found

We will have a lost & found table out in the atrium the day of Parent/Teacher conferences.  Please check through the pile to see if you recognize any of the lost items.

Please make sure that your child’s belongings are marked with their name and if lost, Debbie Smith will give you a call.  If you have any questions or are looking for an item, please feel free to give her a call at 303-469-8043.

Volleyball

This week’s volleyball games are as follows:

Vista Ridge (VRA #1) plays Chariot here at home.
Vista Ridge Eagles (VRA #2) plays at Cedarwood.
Our home game begins at 12:30 pm.  The Cedarwood game begins at 1:00 pm and they will leave for that school at noon.

Directions to Cedarwood:  South on I25, exit I70 and go east.  Exit Monaco and go south (right).  Go all the way to 11th Street.  At 11th Street run east (left) and follow Uinta and turn south (right), go for 2 blocks up to Ulster and turn right (this is the only way you can turn).  They are playing at Montclair Rec. Center, 729 Ulster Way, Aurora CO.

Week of Prayer

Pastor King started our Fall Week of Prayer this morning.  There are two groups meeting each morning.  K-6 meets at 8:15 am and 7-11 meets at 9:00 am.  Please remember these groups in prayer every day at this time.  On Monday morning the Recorder Choir played for the younger group and the Chimes Choir shared with the older group.
