Classroom News
Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken
This week we are learning about Nocturnal animals. We will take a close look at two animals in particular owls and bats.
Please remember when purchasing snacks for class, to check all products and make sure they are not even processed near nuts. It is very important that we stay clear of all nuts. – Thanks.
My last day will be this Friday. I will miss my students so much! I will check in from time to time and I will see everyone in January.
The Fall Festival is coming up. Our class will be selling ice cream bars. I am asking each family to donate 3 boxes of ice cream bars.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, Camille Smith will not be able to be our substitute while Ms. Tusken is on maternity leave. However, we have acquired another very capable teacher to step in and her name is Gretchen Ordelheide. Gretchen will be in the classroom this Thursday morning if you would like to stop in and meet her. She will begin her duties on November 1, 2006, and Patti Chamberlain will be in the classroom from October 23 through October 31.
Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines
We’ll visit the Anderson Pumpkin Farm next week Thursday, weather permitting. Most of you have already paid, but permission slips need to be turned in.
Thanks for supporting our Christopher Columbus celebration. It was fun for us. We are beginning preparations for our dinosaur play.
This is the last week for dinosaur reports. Next week we will begin reports on Bats!
Don’t forget warm clothes for recess, which will be outside unless it is raining. We look forward to a cookout on Tuesday, October 31st. More information will follow.
Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen
We are working on our theme for the Fall Festival and will give you an update in next week’s newsletter.
Reminder: Our Country reports are due October 30th.
Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson
Students are beginning to work on Fish Reports. This is a VERY simple half page to full page report. Students have a grading rubric. One is enclosed in today’s folder for parents.
We do still go outside for recess so please make sure your students have a warm jacket for cold weather.
Don’t forget there will be no classes next Wednesday due to Parent/Teacher conferences. Parents who are not able to meet with me on Wednesday, October 25, are more than welcome to set up a phone conference or meet with me Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday after the 25th between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.

Christmas is only 70 days away. Plan a head and order your poinsettia now!
Vista Ridge Academy is offering poinsettias to our school families once again. The 8th grade is taking on the project as a fund raiser. One of our students should be contacting you soon. If not, please order directly from the school. The cost is $10.00 per flower – order in any quantity.

Mr. Wuerful
Greetings! Our students have been doing exceptionally well the past week. The Seventh and Eighth graders just finished reading the Animal Farm and loved it. They went far deeper into the story and pulled more analogies than most students their age. It’s safe to say that this class has serious academic potential!
Our Ninth and Tenth graders are still plugging away at Great Expectations. They are continuing to understand and interpret Victorian text with ease and are pulling great symbolic meaning from viewing one of Dickens most prolific characters ever created.
Our drama team has been working on its name and mission statement. They voted and decided upon Right Hand Cross. What does that mean? The man on the right hand of Jesus during the crucifixion was one of the only people to truly see Jesus for who he was. The man on the right hand side of Christ chose to accept him even though he realized he was a sinner and was not worthy of Jesus’ love. Their mission statement is: To introduce the world to God’s grace and unseen attributes of His character by dramatically portraying relevant, real, and deep spirituality for today. What a great statement! These kids are on fire for God!
Dates to remember:
October 25- TTATA meeting will meet after school
October 28- Improv night at Vista Ridge Academy @ 7:00 p.m.
This is a new event that the drama team will be participating in. Come out and support these students. They will be playing various improvisational games resembling the Drew Carey Show but appropriate for all ages. They will also make use of audience participation. There will be snacks sold as well as drinks. Please come on out. You will laugh until it hurts while our students are creatively playing their favorite improvisational games.

Europe Trip
If you have not sent in your passport information, it is past time to do that. It takes about 3 months to receive your passport. We have purchased tickets and are in the process of finalizing hotel reservations, so please make sure that your payments are up to date. We are planning on leaving on March 7 and returning on March 18. We will fly in and out of Zurich, Switzerland. Also start looking for a suitcase that is the right size. Plan to bring a carry-on size suitcase.
Parent – Teacher Conferences
Our first parent-teacher conferences of the school year will be October 25. There will NOT be school that day. Each family should call or come by the office to sign up for a conference time for their student(s). The student then comes to the conference with their parent(s). On our original calendar we had a ½ day of school listed but as we began to prepare
for this day, we realized that we have too many students to do a ½ day and need to expand to a full day of conferences. So, to repeat, there is no school but your student should come with you to the conference. Also, we had originally planned to have the conferences begin at 10:00 am and end at 5:45 pm. After some requests from parents who cannot get off work, we have changed the time from Noon until 7:45 pm. If you have already signed up for a time that is in the morning, the office will be calling you to reschedule. Thank you for your understanding as we are going through some growing pains.
Kindergarten parents – We are trying to schedule your conferences the week before (Oct. 16-20) in order to help Mrs. Tusken have the week off before her baby is due. Please see the office for this special schedule.
End of Quarter
Students: It is very important that all homework is completed and turned into your teachers by the Friday, October 20, 2006. After Friday a new quarter begins!
Lost & Found
Parents: We will have a lost & found table out in the atrium the day of Parent/Teacher conferences. Please check through the pile to see if you recognize any of the lost items.
Please make sure that your child’s belongings are marked with their name and if lost, Ms. Debbie Smith will give you a call. If you have any questions or are looking for an item, please feel free to give her a call at 303-469-8043.
Volleyball
We will have two Varsity volleyball teams and a JV team. One Varsity team will be called “Vista Ridge” and the other will be called the “Eagles.” We will post the team rosters later this week.
On Friday, the Vista Ridge team will be playing Cedarwood at their facility at 1:00 pm. The JV and the Eagles team will be playing Chariot at VRA starting at 12:30 pm. The JV team will play the best 2 out of 3. Then the Eagles will be playing the best 3 out of 5.
Directions to Cedarwood: South on I 25, exit I 70 and go east. Exit Monaco and go south (right) go all the way to 11th street. At 11th street turn east (left) follow to Uinta and turn south (right), go for 2 blocks up to Ulster and turn right (this is the only way you can turn). They are playing at Montclair Rec. Center, 729 Ulster Way, Aurora, Co.
