Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken

Plenty of pumpkins are popping up in our room.  This week we are learning all about pumpkins and on Wednesday, we will eat pumpkin muffins!

Our field trip to the Pumpkin Patch had to be rescheduled due to the weather.  We are now going on October 26.  New permission slips will be sent home.

Parents:  Please remember to take all completed work and letters out of your child’s Bear Binder each night.  Thanks.

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

You probably have heard that the Pumpkin Patch field trip has been postponed until October 26.  Hopefully there will be no rain or snow in the forecast for that day.  New permission slips will be sent home.

Thursday is officially Columbus Day.  We’ll celebrate with a short skit at 3:00 p.m.  It will be presented a couple times, so you should be able to catch a performance.

Reports for this week and next will be dinosaurs.  Keep it simple, especially 1st grade.  Students should be able to read what they have written.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

Everything is going great, we are working hard!  Please encourage your child to continue working on their Country reports, as they are due at the end of the month.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

Today ends our unit on Ancient Greece!  We had Greek Olympics this morning!  Winners were awarded a vine wreath to wear on their heads.  Those who were brave enough tasted Greek noodles, Greek tomato pilaf, and Baklava!  This afternoon we enjoyed Ancient Greece at IMAX.

Fifth graders – don’t forget to turn in your passport ski applications!

Parents who are not able to meet with me on Wednesday, October 25, for parent/teacher conferences are more than welcome to set up a phone conference or meet with me Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday after the 25th between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.

Book orders are due tomorrow, Wednesday, October 11.

Art Class for 2nd Quarter is in need of small plastic butter tubs or cottage cheese cartons.  If you have some to donate, please bring them by the office.  P.S. We only need a few - about 30 or so.  Thank you.

Parent – Teacher Conferences

Our first parent-teacher conferences of the school year will be October 25.  There will NOT be school that day.  Each family should call or come by the office to sign up for a conference time for their student(s).  The student then comes to the conference with their parent(s).  On our original calendar we had a ½ day of school listed but as we began to prepare for this day, we realized that we have too many students to do a ½ day and need to expand to a full day of conferences.  So, to repeat, there is no school but your student should come with you to the conference.  Also, we had originally planned to have the conferences begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 5:45 p.m.  After some requests from parents who cannot get off work, we have changed the time from Noon until 7:45 p.m.  If you have already signed up for a time that is in the morning, the office will be calling you to reschedule.  Thank you for your understanding as we are going through some growing pains.

Kindergarten parents – We are trying to schedule your conferences the week before (Oct. 16-20) in order to help Mrs. Tusken have the week off before her baby is due.  Please see the office for this special schedule.

Soccer

Oct 13    All day soccer tournament at VRA
We are currently in 1st place.

Our 1st game will start at 8:30 a.m. and if we win, our next game will be at 1:00 p.m.

Please note:  Students that are not part of the team are not allowed to stay for the tournament unless they are supervised by their parent. All soccer players need to be picked up no later than 2:30 p.m.

Spirit Day

School Spirit Day is this Friday during the Soccer Tournament.  Wear your green and gold and show pride in your school!

Week of Prayer

Pastor King will be doing our Fall Week of Prayer during the week of October 23 through 27.  K-6 will meet with him from 8:15-8:45 each morning and 7-11 will meet with him from 9:00-9:30 each morning.

School Bus

If you have a student riding the bus, please note:  If you need to have your student change their riding arrangements, please call the school office at least ½ hour BEFORE the end of school so that we can inform all the people involved.  If you do not inform the office, please do not expect us to change the bus route or schedule to accommodate your student(s). Thank you for your understanding.
