Classroom News

Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken

We had a great time on our field trip to the Lafayette fire station.  A huge “thank you” to the mom’s that volunteered!  We had so much fun on the last field trip that we decided to go on another!  On October 11, we will be joining the 1-2 grade class on a field trip to the Pumpkin Patch!  Permission forms will be sent home next week.

This week we are studying about bears.  Each student has been asked to bring a bear to school for the week.  The bears will be their buddy throughout the school day.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Clash Dress Up!  Can’t wait to see the outfits!

Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines

Thanks for supporting Snack Shack by sending treats for us to sell.  We have a couple projects we are working on this year and will let you know more about them.

Owl reports have been great.  Thanks for encouraging your student.  All reports must be in by Friday.

Remember library books every Wednesday.  We have some overdue books at this time.  Mrs. Chamberlain is encouraging us to return books on time.
Our visit to the Anderson Farm for pumpkins will be

October 11th.  This is a fun event, so you may want to join us.  Permission slips will be sent home next week.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen

Last week was Outdoor School for the 3rd and 4th grades at Glacier View Ranch!  Mrs. Lujan is substituting today for Mrs. Hansen, so she asked the students what their favorite activities were at outdoor school.  This is what they said:

Hunting for Bugs
Stalking Prey
Playing in forts
Scat Search
Hike to Devil’s Bathtub
and, of course,
NO HOMEWORK!

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

There are two permission slips in today’s folder.  One is for Outdoor School on October 3-4.  We will leave the school on Tuesday morning and return by the end of the day on Wednesday.  The cost is $35.  Please pray for great weather!

The following week, on October 10, we will be going to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science to view the IMAX movie, Ancient Greece.  The cost is $4.50.
Parents, please indicate on the permission slip if you will also be attending.

Our class is doing a very short skit tomorrow morning for Chapel.  Recorders will also be playing special music!  Come join us!

Speaking of music, we are now at the end of the trial time for recorders and ensembles.  We will plan on your child staying in the music classes unless you talk or send a note to Mrs. Carlisle and Ms. Schneider.  Even though the class is optional, I highly recommend it!

Grades are up on Edline.  If you do not have the internet at home, please let me know and I will send a hard copy of your child’s grades in the Tuesday folder.  Thanks!

Parents of Junior Academy Students:

The school will be providing transportation for the Junior Class to take the PSAT at Mile High Academy.  Watch for further announcements on how to register your student online and what the cost will be.  This is an important test for them to take as it helps them prepare for the SAT.  The test will be on Wednesday, October 25, 2006.

Parents:
Classes are going well and students are reading their hearts out. Seventh and Eighth have been reading the Animal Farm and they are loving it! From themes of control to dictatorships, how could they not?

The Drama team is preparing for their first performance at the Denver First Youth Rally on the 6th of October. They will be performing a play that they helped write and direct.

The Reading class just finished reading the beautiful novel The Giver. I asked the class to post discussion comments online and was blown away when I got online and found that they had gotten so into this exercise that they had posted 77 comments in two days! The comments were great and showed a lot of maturity in their thinking processes!

Fine Arts
Mrs. Carlisle & Mrs. Force

With our larger enrollment and expansion of our academy, we are running into some logistical issues with some of our school programs.  Since our Christmas program has been running too long we have decided to split up the program.  Here is the added program dates along with the groups that will be performing each evening.

December 7th December 13th
K-2 Choir 7-11 Choir
3-6 Choir 7-11 Chimes
Recorder Choir Strings Choir
Band Drama

Please make a note on your calendar that the program on the 7th has been added and plan now to attend the program in which your student is involved!

Video & Editing

Attention All Parents!

Your help is needed to make the “Year End” video the best ever.  Every year we struggle to have enough videos of the lower grade’s events.

If you have a video camera and are willing to be responsible for taking videos of class events, please let the office know.  If you have a video camera that uses mini-dvd tapes and would like to donate it to the school, the video editing class would be excited to make use of it.

Dress Code

Just a reminder!  With the cooler temperatures, please remember that hoodies are not an approved part of the dress code.

Clash Day

Tomorrow is clash day and we are encouraging all students to show their school spirit.

What is clash day? – Wearing colors and patterns that do not match.  Be creative and colorful, but please stay within our modest dress code guidelines.  No flip flops or sandals!

Picture Day is October 5

Picture Day is coming!  Do you need a haircut? Facial? New Outfit?  Come prepared to smile your best – and remember the dress code – these pictures do end up in the school yearbook!

Please return order forms with check by Wednesday, September 27!

Bulletin Board

Please check the bulletin board for updates!  Also, if you would like to post something on the board, please check with Marirose in the office first.

Europe Trip

It is time to get your passports!  Passport applications can be obtained at most Post Offices!

The next payment is due on October 1, 2006.  Start making plans to make the payment on time, since the funds are needed to make reservations.

Edline

You should have received your edline activation codes by now.  Please call the office if you experience any difficulty accessing your student’s grades.

Cognitive Genesis

All parents with students in grades 3-9 & 11 should have received a Cognitive Genesis parent survey either hand delivered to you or in the mail.  This research survey is being done for the NAD and is following the Value Genesis report.  Your student has already completed testing that coincides with this survey.  We need your part of the survey returned to us by Wednesday, September 27 (that’s tomorrow!).  If you do not turn in your survey, then your student is automatically left out of the research project.

Where the survey asks for the two-digit conference code put 04.   Where the survey asks for the six-digit student code, put a zero in front of your student’s five-digit code.

Take-Home Dinners:

Want a night off from cooking?  Home & School will provide that opportunity for you on 4 different nights this school year.  We will prepare a delicious dinner for your entire family on the following dates:

  1. Sept. 27th
  2. Nov. 15th
  3. Jan. 17th
  4. Mar. 21st

Each generously-sized dinner cost $5.00.  Why go out to eat and pay tax and tip?  Order from us and support your school!  The menu and order form for the September 27th meal is enclosed.
