Mrs. Tusken
This week we are focused on shapes! In your child’s BEAR Binder you will find homework for this week. Please complete and return by Wednesday.
I am still looking for drivers for our field trip to the local fire station. I need to call and set a date ASAP. We should only be gone for about 3-4 hours. If you can help, please let me know.
Reminder: School/Parent night social is this coming Thursday, September 7, 2006. I hope everyone will attend. Our class is bringing the appetizers. See you there!
Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines
We’re going berry picking tomorrow. Be sure to bring a sack lunch with a drink. Wear shoes for walking in the field, I hope everyone has a permission slip already turned in. We’ll ride the bus with Mr. Britt and leave school at 10:00 a.m. The bus will return to school about 2:30 p.m.
Next Monday, September 11, 2006, the Snack Shack will open! Chocolate milk and ice cream bars will be sold for .50 cents each. A snack shack card may be purchased in the office for $5.00. Some students have a credit from last year. All proceeds go to our mission project.
Book orders go in this week, please turn them in if you plan to order.
Grades 3-4
Mrs. Hansen
We’re still working on outdoor school. Keeping the cost down is the biggest problem at present. Please read the new newsletter and survey included, from Mrs. Hansen.
Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson
Don’t forget Thursday night’s Home & School event. There will be a potluck supper (our class is supposed to provide desserts) followed by a general information session and classroom breakout sessions. I look forward to seeing you there.
Next week we will begin ITBS testing. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and a good breakfast!
If you would like to order books from the book club flyer that went home last week, please have your orders and payment turned in tomorrow.
Our first spelling test was today. The next test will be on Monday, September 18 due to ITBS testing. New word lists were handed out today.
Grades 7-10

Mr. Force and Mr. Pauls
Parents and students alike:
School has gone extremely well! We are off to a good start.
Seventh and Eighth - Reading has begun and we’re already reading with vim and vigor. We are analyzing the book The Giver and the students love it. Parents, students are required to checkout books from the local library or buy them every month and a half. They will be given a list of books a month before they are due so as to make life easier on all of us.
Ninth and tenth are reading Great Expectations, my favorite novel, and are enjoying it as much as a high school student reading Dickens for the first time.
Eleventh Grade students have just finished reading Beowulf and have vigorously been posting comments online about this medieval piece of literature.
**It is very important that you as parents keep up to date with various assignments and dates. Because it is important, I have been working hard at developing a Web site that will keep you informed on the vocabulary word, assignments, and various announcements that come up. Visit: www.freewebs.com/tonywuerfel and be informed! When your student says, “Mom, I don’t have any homework.” You can respond with, “Well, the Web site says you do.”
Life Skills Class: The Life Skills students will be interviewing for their chosen professions. Please help your student dress for success in planning for their interviews as well as helping them to prepare for the interview questions.

Parents Night Potluck
September 7, 2006 -- If you misplaced the flyer from last week, stop by the office to get another one. Eat together, talk with teachers and hear the great things that the Home & School is planning. DON’T FORGET YOUR RECIPES!
Gymnastics
We are off to a great start! We will continue this week with 7-11 grade tryouts.
Ride Still Needed
We still have one student that needs a ride home after school each day. She needs to be dropped off at 615 S. Boulder Road. If you could help this parent out with a ride, please contact the office. Thank you!
Transportation
If your student is transporting other students to or from school OR if your student is riding with another student to school, we need a parent authorization form filled out by you. Please stop by the office as your earliest convenience. Thank you.
Soccer
Our first soccer scrimmage is tomorrow! We will be playing Watershed School here on our campus. The game begins at 2:00 pm, so you will be able to pick up your students at the regular time.
Our Friday game is away at Foothills Academy. Transportation will be provided for your students to the game. The game begins at 2:00 pm. Your students will be ready to be picked up at 3:30 pm. Here are the directions to the game: Take I-70 Kipling. Take the Frontage Road (turn at Taco Bell) 1 block south to Miller Street. Turn left and go 1 block on Miller. Foothills School is on the right and the park where the game is going to be is on the left – Fruitdale Park. The school’s address is 4725 Miller Street in Wheatridge.
European Tour
September 1 has come and gone. If you are planning on going on the European Tour, have you turned in your initial deposit of $100 per person? Tour arrangements are being made throughout the next few weeks. Now is the time to put your name on the list if you want to go.

Fine Arts
Mrs. Carlisle & Mrs. Force
Our Chimes Class has found a new spot to practice.
We are in the Media Room of the library. It is such a nice problem to have – that of needing more room for
our classes! The Academy Choir has actually started practicing Christmas music. We are grateful to Mark McLachlan for consenting to accompany the choir. Melanie Pauls will be accompanying the two lower grade choirs. The 3-6 choir is learning how to sing in a “round” and the K-2 is having a great time singing action songs.
Beginning Drawing is learning to draw upside down! Ask them about the significance of this.
Please contact Ms. Carlisle if you would like your student to take piano or instrumental lessons.
