The Spelling Bee last week was very rewarding for all your hard work.  We want to congratulate Alex Mason for winning the Grand Championship and also 3rd place in the 4th grade class.  Annie Hodgson took 5th place in the 3rd grade class.  Thanks to all who participated and to the parents who helped.

We have tentative approval to go to Six Flags on Monday, May 22.  Permission slips are included in today’s folder.  Tickets MUST be purchased by Monday, May 8.  Students need to have $19.50 turned in to the office on or before Monday.  No ticket will be purchased for students who have not turned in their money.  They can buy a ticket at the gate for $44.99.

Regarding the Dinner Theater (Music Man) – Tuesday, May 16 seems to be the best date.  I will try and confirm with all parents before I make reservations in Boulder. Thursday will be our last time to make Haystacks for hot lunch this year.  All students have worked very hard each month and it will be a special reward to go to the Boulder Dinner Theater.

Don’t forget our own Dessert Theater on Thursday evening, May 11.  Tickets are on sale now.  Freshmen and Sophomores will be performing “Clue”.

We had a great time dissecting owl pellets!  Some students couldn’t stomach it, while others couldn’t get enough!  They were a gift from Durango teacher, Evelyn Caldwell.

Attention!

The sound baffles  for the gym have arrived.  We need lots of help to install them.  There will be an installation party on Sunday, May 7 at 1:30 P.M.  Please come to help us!

Jog-A-Thon

Third Annual Jog-A-Thon will be held on Friday morning after worship on May 5.  Proceeds will go to the VRA sponsorship fund.  Students are encouraged to get sponsors per lap or flat fee before the event.  They will have an hour in which to complete as many laps as possible.  Forms are included in the Tue. folders  or you may get additional ones in office. We would like to have parents volunteer to help with the event.  Come support the kids.

2006 Yearbook

Information Update—The yearbook staff would like to notify parents and students that our 2006 yearbook will be a summer delivery as in years past.  We will notify you this summer when we will have our yearbook party.  If you are out of town, we will be sure and save a copy for you.

Dress Code

Do to popular demand, the school board has reconsidered the dress code for next year and will allow students to wear shirts with patterns (stripes, plaids, etc.).  The requirements for the types of shirts will remain the same, just the pattern requirements have changed.  Thank you for your support and recommendations in this area.

Classroom News, Continued

Grades 9 & 10
Mr. Wuerfel

After an exciting class trip, the kids are finally settling down for the last push of classes.  Seven and Eight are finishing up with Romeo and Juliet and are well on their way to becoming Shakespearean scholars.  I have tried my best to discourage them from quitting school and doing nothing but reading and reciting Shakespeare but some are quite content.  I fear the next newsletter may have more on this interesting dilemma.  The Nine and Ten classes are going well.  Students have worked hard on their essays and the results have been very positive.

Dessert Theater is going to be a blast!  The kids have been working extremely hard at memorizing lines and preparing the set.  Each student has been given tickets to sell so please seek them out because they are more than willing to offer them to you.  This is an original play that will, hopefully, give you and your family a night full of fun, intrigue, and lots of laughs.  So please come out and support our ninth and tenth graders.
