Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken
We had a great time ice skating yesterday!! Everybody had a SUPER attitude because even though there were lots of falls, everyone got right back up with a big smile on their faces!! All the students can’t wait to go again!! Thanks to all the parents that came and helped out!!
This week our theme is dental health. I am asking for each child to bring to school a toothbrush and toothpaste so that they can brush after lunch. Please label each and place in a zip-lock bag. Thanks.
We will be having a Valentines Party next Tuesday. We will be exchanging Valentines cards, so please have your child address a card for every student. A class list will be in today’s folder.
Our sentence practice for this week is reviewing the following words: have and it.

What a beautiful day for skating on Monday. You can be so proud of your kids! They didn’t give up in spite of numerous falls, collisions, and bumps. We had to practically pull them off the ice when it was time to leave. Thanks to all the parents and volunteers who helped us out.
We will celebrate Valentine’s Day next Tuesday by exchanging cards and having a few refreshments. Let’s not overload one another on the candy since our reports for this week and next will deal with dental care.
We’ll be following the Winter Olympics. Reports for Feb. 20th – March 3rd should concern any aspect of these events.
Grades 3-4
Mr. Breese
We are currently studying about animals and ecosystems in science. Since it is such a large/diverse subject, I would like to provide the students with an opportunity to do a research paper on any animal of their choice. I have excluded pets and farm animals because I want them to research an animal that they are interested in but do not have much knowledge about. The students can use the Internet or encyclopedias depending on availability. We only have two Classroom computers, so if possible, I would like them to do the bulk of their research at home since most/all have access to a family computer. I have given them a great Web site for children to get them started, but others may be available. The address for this Web site is sunsite.berkeley.edu/kidsclick! No www. is necessary. I will be giving the students a worksheet today to help guide them through the process and give them direction. A project deadline has not been set, but it will most likely be around the middle of February, around the 17th. I would prefer that these reports be typed since they give the students word processing practice and are much neater and easier to read. I would appreciate it if you could oversee their work at home and to ensure that it gets started and completed. Thanks for your help. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson
Students are busy trying to make, spend, and manage money! We spent yesterday and today learning the principle of tithing.
We started presenting our Social Studies projects today. All projects are due by Wednesday. There will be a Social Studies quiz on Wednesday. Upcoming tests for next week are English and Science.
Next Wednesday is the Ski Day. We are working on an alternative activity for students not going skiing.
This Friday our class will sell snacks at the Basketball games. We will have bake sale items, quesadillas, popcorn, nachos and drink. We need contributions for the bake sale (cookies, brownies, bars). If you can contribute, please have it at school by Thursday so we can wrap them. Thanks.

Ms Schneider
Essays are being handed in and debates are more and more heated! The ninth and tenth graders have finished their final practice essays and will begin working on the To Kill a Mockingbird persuasive essays. Each student is going to have a lot of work ahead of them so if they say the phrase “I don’t have anything to do tonight” know that they probably do.
In Geography we are studying the Canadian Provinces. Each group has been assigned two and will present their information on Thursday. Along with their oral presentation they are making “gourmet” dishes that one would find while visiting the area. It’s going to be a savory experience=)
On Monday, February 6th, the ninth and tenth graders will be visiting the College Hill library at Front Range Community College. They will be given a tour of the library as well as a hand-on class about finding information on the internet. The focus will be on validating information and finding reliable sources for research.
The seventh and eighth graders have begun a revolution! They have time warped into a time in our history where we as Americans defined ourselves and created a new world and government. This is a fun unit that will help them understand where we came from and how we got here.
Note to parents: Many of my students have come to class unprepared to work. They must have a writing utensil and paper.
Also, we will have vespers, GLO, on the 24th of February from 7-9 p.m. This is a completely student led event so please bring them out! We will bring in the Sabbath by creatively inviting God into our lives through music, snacks, prayer, and fellowship.
Ski Day: Wednesday, Feb. 15. Grades 5-10.
Girls Slumber Party: The slumber party at Miss Schneider’s house for the 7-10 grade girls has been changed to Saturday, February 25. Please bring $3 to contribute to the food. The party will start at 6 pm. The girls need to be picked up on Sunday by 1 pm. If you need more information about this activity, please contact Miss Schneider.
FYI:
Many of your children spend time on a website called MySpace.com. This is a site where people from all over post pictures, usually of themselves, and fill out a profile containing personal information about themselves. It allows your children to not only post their profiles but then they are able to connect and write to anybody on the website using either e-mail or instant messaging.
As we have warned before, because of the anonymity of the internet, no one can be sure that anything written is true. Also, because of the anonymity, some of the material written and the way it is presented is less than uplifting.
If you haven’t seen the site or your child’s profile, I strongly urge you to take a look. The easiest way to do so would be to have your child log on and ask them to give you a tour of where they’ve been and who is on their “friends list”. Look at some of the friends’ profiles. There is also a place to check what they have been writing to each other. If you need to, you can sign up for a profile of your own (It’s free) and search your child’s name or the name of their friends.
The nature of the internet is such that it is easy to deceive and easy to make contact, even when none is desired. Even trustworthy people can’t control the material to which they would be exposed. I always find it better to err on the side of safety and innocence.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for everyone. Many studies have found a relationship between eating breakfast and learning ability, attention span, and general well-being. The American Dietetic Association (www.eatright.org) reports that adults who eat breakfast have an easier time losing weight. Children who regularly eat breakfast think faster, clearer, solve problems more easily, and are less likely to be irritable.
Breakfast is important for all ages, not just children. Other studies point to a connection between skipping breakfast with weight gain and memory impairment in young and older adults.
Juice or milk, along with yogurt, fruit like bananas or apples, bagels, bread, toasted plain waffles, granola bar, or just a small bag of dry cereal can be eaten easily as a snack in the morning.

We are looking for comedy, singing, musical instruments, groups, gymnastics, etc., etc., etc. Whatever talent you have, it might be worth some money! The Cherub choir did a great job singing for the Spanish church on Saturday, Jan. 28. They looked wonderful and of course sang their little hearts out. There is a marked improvement in their singing ability from the beginning of the school year to this point. I am very proud of their progress.
We are preparing to play/sing a Washtub Band, so parents, please be creative and help your little one with a home-made instrument. We will be doing a “guest” appearance at the Talent Show on February 18th. Instruments should be brought to school by February 14th. Please put the child's name on their instrument.
