A big day is planned for the 100th Day of School on Monday, January 30th!  We’re looking forward to unique displays and reports on the 100 items.  Be creative and wear something awesome.

The highlight of the day is scheduled for 2:30.  That’s when the class will present two short plays.  You won’t want to miss Make Up Your Mind, Marvin and Michael’s Cat.  Parents are welcome for the presentation – refreshments will follow!

Reports for February 6th through 17th will be on the subject of teeth and dental care.

Our good friend Vianney and family are moving to Oklahoma.  Monday was her last day.  We wish them well!

Ice skating is on Monday, February 6th.  Bring a lunch and wear clothing for an outdoor activity.

We could use more Kleenex or similar tissues.

We have been putting together “Parables of Jesus” books for the past two weeks.  These books contain the MV for the lesson, the title of the parable, a brief summary of the parable in the students’ own words, and brief summary of how the parable can apply to us today.  They also contain an illustration of the parable.  The students seem to be enjoying this activity, but I really hope that they will/can apply personal meaning to their daily lives.  I would like to have them type them (much neater), but do not have sufficient computers in the room to do so.  When they are finished, we plan to laminate and bind them.

Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson

Grade reports for the first week of third quarter are in today’s folders.  As a reminder, all work is due by Friday of the week it was assigned.  No late work will be accepted.

We have English and Science tests on Thursday this week.  There will be a Math test on Friday.  We are studying multiplication of fractions this week.

Students have chosen a topic of study/research on a Midwestern state.  We are researching our topics at school for a couple class periods.  Additional time will need to be spent out of school.  Presentations will be given February 6-8.  A grading rubric is in today’s folder and well as a timeline/due dates for their chosen topic.

We will be assigning jobs and organizing checkbooks this week as we begin our money management unit!

In Drama class we are debating! And in English, essays are the order of the day.

Ski Day: Wednesday, Feb. 15.   Grades 5-10.  You must have your forms in on January 25!

FYI:
Many of your children spend time on a Web site called MySpace.com.  This is a site where people from all over post pictures, usually of themselves, and fill out a profile containing personal information about themselves.  It allows your children to not only post their profiles but then they are able to connect and write to anybody on the Web site using either e-mail or instant messaging.

As we have warned before, because of the anonymity of the internet, no one can be sure that anything written is true. Also, because of the anonymity, some of the material written and the way it is presented is less than uplifting.

If you haven’t seen the site or your child’s profile, I strongly urge you to take a look.  The easiest way to do so would be to have your child log on and ask them to give you a tour of where they’ve been and who is on their “friends list.”  Look at some of the friends’ profiles.  There is also a place to check what they have been writing to each other.  If you need to, you can sign up for a profile of your own (it’s free) and search your child’s name or the name of their friends.

The nature of the internet is such that it is easy to deceive and easy to make contact, even when none is desired.  Even trustworthy people can’t control the material to which they would be exposed. I always find it better to err on the side of safety and innocence.

Mr. Pauls
