Mrs. Tusken

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving Vacation!! It was nice to have a break but, it was also nice to be reunited on Monday!! Our theme this week is “Our 5 Senses”.  Next week our themes will be Gingerbread, Polar Express, and Christmas.  To go along with our theme “Polar Express” we will be having a Pajama Party on Thursday, Dec. 8.  Please have your child dress in their PJ’s for school and they are welcome to bring slippers for inside the classroom, but please include regular shoes for outside time and P.E. Thanks!

Our class will be having a Christmas Party on Friday Dec. 16.  The children will be drawing names for a gift exchange.  I have included the name of the student your child has selected in today’s folder. I am suggesting a limit of $7.00 for the gifts. Please wrap the presents and you are welcome to bring them anytime to place under our class tree!

I have included a new snack sign-up sheet for   Jan.-May.  Please sign your name on a week and return the calendars in your child’s folder. Thanks!!!!

We have a new sentence practice; our words are white and we. I can tell that everyone has been practicing!! Everyone is getting good at spotting those sight words!!

Just a reminder; book orders are due this Friday.  Thanks.

Thanksgiving Vacation was great, but it was wonderful to see everyone on Monday.  Before we know it, Christmas break will be upon us.  The children drew names today for the gift exchange to be held on Friday, December 16th.  Gifts may be brought any time and placed under the tree.  It is suggested that there be a $7.00 limit to the amount spent on gifts.

We are outside for most every recess, so be prepared with gloves, coat, and hat.  There were children outside yesterday in the cold and wind with no coat.  They had not even worn one to school!  Another reminder, spelling and memory verse tests on Friday.  Also, check the hot lunch schedule in this newsletter.

Sorry, but our report schedule is out of kilter.  Between now and Christmas break we will be looking forward to reports on a Christmas tradition.  This can be one you and your family have, or it can be a tradition from another country.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Morgan

Congratulations to all of the Grade 3 and 4 Pioneers who helped collect over 120 food items in our recent “Cash for Cans” food drive.  These food items will help make Christmas a little brighter for some local families.  Thank-you!

The 3rd and 4th Grade class will be having an outing to Avista Adventist Hospital on Wed., December 14.  We plan to leave VRA at 12:00 p.m.  The students will be sharing their musical talents with the patients and staff at the hospital.  After singing, the students will have a short tour of the hospital and then return to VRA for dismissal.  You would be most welcome to join us either at VRA or at the hospital to listen to the music.  I can assure you that Avista Hospital is in for a real musical treat!  We hope to see some of you there.

The Boulder SDA church Christmas Cantata “Festival of Lights” on Dec. 10, which we have been invited to sing in, will practice again on Fri., Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m.at the church.  This is a required practice for those wishing to participate. And Sat., Dec. 10, 10:30 a.m. assemble for performance.  Please wear festive Christmas church clothes for the performance if possible.

We are still planning to go on our field trip tomorrow, November 30.  Geologist Gary Nowlan will be showing us signs of chemical and physical weathering as part of our science curriculum.  We will experience these signs first hand along the Front Range.  Permission slips are necessary in order for your child to participate.  We will leave the school at 10:00 a.m. and return in time for band at 2:30 p.m.  Please make sure to dress warm (snow clothes!)  it may be windy and bring a sack lunch.

Lines are memorized, props are being built, and prayers are being sent up. The Christmas Play is going to be a treat! We hope you will all be joining us as well as bringing friends and family to this very special occasion.
Students have worked hard to write and develop this play and are asking for your support in attendance. We feel confident that God will use this play to spark emotions in you that will inevitably direct you to Christ, the giver of peace.

Progress report on
Box Tops and Campbell’s

We did it! We already turned in enough labels and bonuses in the Campbell’s Labels for Education program to qualify for our goal: a 24-foot play parachute canopy for the younger grades. It should be delivered in January.
The parachute required 6,000 labels, but we still have 3,044 label points “banked” with the program. At this rate, we'll be able to order another item this year, and it won't cost us any money.
Please continue to save every Campbell’s label. If you’re not sure what part to save from some products, look for the tiny “Labels for Education” logo. It often says “save label,” “save lid,” or “save UPC.” To save the label, simply slice it off the can. Also, look at the end of grocery receipts for any bonuses.
The Box Tops for Education program is totally separate, and it rewards our school with two payments a year. We just submitted 950 Box Tops, so VRA will receive a check for $95 in December. Look for the “Box Tops for Education” squares on grocery items, and save each one.
Ask relatives if they would also save Box Tops and Campbell’s labels for VRA. The rewards from these programs directly benefit our students. If you have any questions, call Jennifer Jas at 303-460-9272.
