What a change in the weather!  We still hope to visit the Anderson Pumpkin farm on Wednesday.  Please wear warm clothes and shoes or boots for muddy conditions!  Everyone will need to bring a lunch.  Be sure permission slips and $6.00 fee are in.  It should be quite an adventure.

We’re finishing our squirrel reports this week.  Our next science unit is on the Solar System and space exploration.

Grades 3-4
Mrs. Morgan

I am constantly inspired as I am surrounded daily by the positive energy and enthusiasm of my Grade 3-4 students.  It seems they always have something fun to look forward to in the near future.  They boast of only 5 “sleeps” until we visit grandma and 2 “sleeps” until we get a big snowfall in the backyard.  Every new topic is an exciting adventure and almost every student has a related story they would like to share.

As adults, it seems we have sometimes lost that sense of awe and excitement for the fun events that happen in life.  At some point of maturity our skepticism kicks in, and our perspective on the same event changes.  The joy of seeing Grandma is clouded by the burden of a five-hour road trip to get there, and the thrill of snow in the backyard is diminished by icy roads and hazardous driving conditions that accompany the snow.

It is true that many times our joy in anticipation is greater than the joy of realization.  As grown-ups we often know the realization of experiences, so  we also moderate our joy in anticipation.  This strategy ultimately reduces the level of joy and expected fun in our day.

In our grade 3-4 classroom the learning process goes two ways, usually from teacher to student but in this case goes from grade 3-4 students to their teacher (and perhaps beyond).  May you be reminded, as I have been, to look for and enjoy the fun things in life.  May we grown-ups not miss out on life’s joys because we have become mature.

Thank you to Janelle, Carrie, Madison, Genelle, Annie, Gabrielle, Mrs. Wagnaar, and Mrs. Lujan for participating in Sunday's Crop Walk.  We walked in the rain but finished with a cup of hot chocolate!  Thank you, Shadow, for supporting the Crop Walk financially even though you couldn't join us!

Fifth graders have a Colorado Ski Pass application to fill in for a free ski pass.  Please fill in the application and return it.  We will add a photo and mail them in.  Sixth graders are eligible for a ski pass at a reduced rate.  Those forms have not come yet.  They will be sent home as soon as they are available.

There was a Social Studies test today and there will be a Science test tomorrow.

Classes have been going well and we’re having a blast working on our short stories in English and time warping to 1492, sailing with Columbus on the ocean blue in History.

A reminder to students and parents alike, any work that is turned in one day late will have 20% points deducted. After the second day the assignment is considered a zero. It is essential that we teach our students the importance of being on time.

Notice – Asbestos Free

Although we are in a new facility, we are still required to have and maintain an asbestos plan.  This requires us to give annual notice to students and parents that we have an asbestos free building.  We have received verification from the builder that to the best of their knowledge, no materials or products were used in the construction of the building that contained asbestos.  You may view our asbestos management plan in the principal’s office at any time.

Healthy Lunches and Snacks

Mark Twain once said: “The only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd druther not.”

As cooler weather sets in so will the cold and flu season.  On days when Hot Lunch is not served, we encourage parents to send healthy lunches and snacks to school with your children.  Please limit food and drink items that are high in sugar, fat, and caffeine.  Not only will this help maintain good health, but it will also aid in a higher level of concentration and cooperation in the classroom!  Thank you.

Home & School to host Pancake Breakfast!

Our fall fundraising efforts have been very successful!  We are continuing to send out fundraiser letters as well as sell the Family Fun Packs.

Home & School will be hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Fri, Oct. 14th, for all students who have sent out at least 6 fundraiser letters (or, 10 per family).  Please see your child’s teacher for more information.  Students who have sold at least 5 Family Fun Packs will also be eligible for the Pancake Breakfast.  Our Goal is to raise $7,500.00 by the end of October.  With our matching grant our total would be $15,000.00.  If we can raise these funds, our running track will be installed this Summer!

If you have any questions regarding the fundraiser, please call the school office at 303-828-4944 or Ivy Lee at 720-890-4875.
