Classroom News
Kindergarten
Mrs. Tusken
We are continuing our theme of colors. Next week our theme will be shapes and then we will focus on apples and Johnny Appleseed. Our letter of the week is Bb. Our letter book from last week will be in your child’s folder today. Please take time to read the book with your child.
Our literature connections this week is “Mouse Paint” by Ellen Walsh.
Last week I explained that I need parents to sign-up for supplying one week of snack. This week in your child’s folder I have included a calendar as well as what to bring for that week. Please pick a week and return the calendar and I will make a final master for everyone to keep. Please remember to make the snacks as easy as possible (pre-washed, cut, etc), as I have limited amount of time to prepare.
Please remember that book orders are due back tomorrow.
Also a special note about pizza on Mondays, students need to bring a dollar for one slice of pizza. Pizza is NOT included in the hot lunch meal ticket! There is also chocolate milk and popsicles to buy. So if you want them to have any extra treats, please have your child bring money on Mondays.
Grades 1-2
Mrs. Gaines
This is a Birthday week for our classroom with Nicholas, Ujjwal, and Arie all celebrating on a different day. Congratulations!
A reminder to parents, a daily morning snack is not provided. Many students bring something and look forward to snacking at 10:00, just before recess time. If your child wants or needs something at this time, be sure to help them pack something. You can keep it simple. Some suggestions: dry cereal, fruit, crackers, nuts, fruit roll-up, etc. Put it in a zip lock and stick in their backpack. Many times it makes a big difference in how the morning goes for them.
About half the class has presented their apple report. These are due by Friday. Jest in case you wanted to know, Johnny Appleseed has a birthday next week.
Thanks for providing supplies for Snack Shack. Yesterday was our first sales day of the school year. We will be making available a $5.00 punch card for all students. Since we discourage IOUs, we encourage students to buy a card which we will keep at Snack Shack and keep track of purchases. We’ll have these ready by the end of the week and they may be bought in the office.
Grades 3-4
Mrs. Morgan
We are continuing to learn new things about the underwater world and the creatures in it. This week one of the reading groups wrote a poem which they wanted to share:
Fish
Swimming in the sea below,
Fish can go where no one knows.
They like to stay together in a school,
Having fun, while they play in their ocean pool.
They need to keep away from sharks,
That’s why they like to swim in the dark.
So if you get a chance to dive,
You’ll see that the ocean really is alive.
(By- The Windows Reading Group)
We are very excited to have enough Bibles in our classroom so that everyone now has one. Thanks to a very generous donor! Don’t forget that science projects are due on Monday, September 19. Also, remember that the Iowa tests are scheduled for that week so try to have a good breakfast and get plenty of rest the night before.
Grades 5-6
Mrs. Hodgson
Please remember that next week is ITBS testing. Students need to get plenty of sleep and a good breakfast every day.
Please bring cash to pay for pizza on Mondays. No credit will be given. If you need to, you may leave cash in an envelope in the office.
Grades are current as of Monday evening, September 12.
Tests: Science test tomorrow and Math test on Friday.
Grades 7-8
Miss Schneider
The 7th & 8th grade students have each chosen a kindergarten student to be their buddy. As parents, please encourage your students to look for ways of keeping in touch with their buddy.

Home and School News
The family pack fundraiser is in full swing. If your student is interested in selling the Family Pack of Coupons, please submit a permission form to the school office (form attached). The secretary will give them the number of packs that you agree for them to sign up for.
There are two other ways to earn funds during this campaign.
1. There is a fundraising letter that can be sent to out of state relatives and friends. These letters are available in each classroom. Just let the teacher know how many you would like to take. PLEASE DO NOT SEND THESE LETTERS OUT FROM YOUR HOME! Take the letters home, fill in the blanks, address the envelope to your out of state relatives/friends, and bring it back to the school. We will put a stamp on it for you, insert a return envelope for the school, and mail it.
2. You may make a donation.
Please keep in mind that ALL PROCEEDS UP TO $7,500 ARE BEING MATCHED! Let’s make sure we make the most of this generous offer and get the full $7,500 matched!
If you have any questions regarding the fundraiser, please call the school office at 303-828-4944 or Ivy Lee at 720-890-4875.

The I.D. # for the school is: 4 90001 7741.
Box Tops for Education
Help VRA earn cash and a play parachute.
Bring in all your Box Tops for Education and Campbell's Labels! Vista Ridge Academy participates in two programs that earn free money and supplies for our school.
Box Tops for Education
Cut the "Box Tops for Education" squares off grocery items and put them in the Box Tops bowl in the school office. VRA receives 10 cents for each one. So far, we have earned about $325. Our goal this year is to submit 3,000 Box Tops and earn $300. We'll keep you posted when we have a specific item we want to purchase with that money.
Campbell 's Labels for Education
Cut off the label from all Campbell's products (or save the lid on certain items), and put them in the collection bin in the school office. VRA can use them to "purchase" items for our school. Our goal this year is to purchase a 24-foot colorful play parachute for the younger grades. We'll need at least 2,200 more labels this year.
Watch your grocery receipts for bonuses and Labels for Education promotions listed at the end.
More details will be available at the Open House this Thursday night.
